Wouldn't it be great to have a Saginaw - Flint rivalry again?

It would be great to have two OHL teams that close.

If they did move there from PLY likely not taking the old "generals" name, with the Oshawa Generals already in the league.

At this point you also have to consider that this will have nothing to do with getting an OHL team or another minor pro team. This may be a case of taking the first step in making that happen down the road. That being having the facilities in place to attract such a team in the future. The OHL has been in the state of flux for the last few years with rumors every season about who the next team to move will be. Could it be Plymouth? Sure it could. Could it be an ECHL team? Sure it could. Could it be just laying the ground work for some future not identified team? Sure it could. Regardless, it will be an interesting press conference and I am looking forward to it.

First off, the "major hockey announcement" is being made by IMS USA. Who are these guys? They're a division of a multinational company that manufactures tool holders for CNC machines. I've never heard their name associated with anything related to hockey.
How about a USHL team coming to Perani Arena? Would be a great geographic fit, with teams already located in Muskegon, Plymouth (soon?), Chicago and the Midwest (especially Iowa).
Any team being located in Flint these days would be a risky venture. Fans down there seem to favor low level rough and tumble minor pro hockey that they grew up with beginning in 1968 when the Gens hit town. Even interest in that style of hockey seemed to lose fan appeal in recent years. Would love to hear Brendan Savage's take on whatever comes out on Tuesday.

My prediction is that the Michigan Warriors will relocate to the Icelander arena and perani arena will undergo renovations to host a new OHL team for next season.

johnt, you took the keyboard right out of my hand!! I can't picture IMS USA making a major announcement that includes an OHL team (as great as that would be). More likely concerning upgrading of hockey facilities in Flint, the way the story reads.

I heard Costa Papista is involved with IMS USA. Also heard, before "insiders" USHL team, possibly dormant Indiana team could be coming to Flint. All speculation at this point. We will find out Tuesday.
