The Spirit return to the Dow after dropping last night's game by a score of 4-1. This will be the last game before the Christmas break, and Santa all I want is a win before the holidays. I promise I'll be nicer (I didn't say I wouldn't lie). So let's play Grinch to the Spits wishes of a W. *continue to insert Christmas related hockey phrase here*
GO SPIRIT!!!

Nice win to finish the first half 15-16 better than the last two years teams records at this time with a very young group.

-Good to see the offense step up cause Paterson sure didn't looked interested.
-Liking Paliani more and more. He's not the most skilled player but he fits Gilbert's system perfectly.
-Stick tap to Mitchell Webb. That's how you use a fight to get a crowd/team into a game.
-Felhaber was really shaky early. A lot of "rookie" decisions, extra dangling, etc. Made up for it though by drawing a penalty and having a nice dish on one of Sadowy's goals.
-First impression of Henley: he's seems like another serviceable guy but I think Orban's gonna be better in the long run. That's only one game though. Hopefully his game will grow.

I'm sure when he found out about Howard's injury, he was expecting a call from the Red Wings to help. The Red Wings called up McCollum so Grand Rapids needed to make a move. With the Holiday Break at hand, Jake easily could have filled in as back up in GR. The fact that they decided to go elsewhere had to be disappointing to Jake. Even if the need went past the break, it's not like the Spirit don't have options to bring a guy up. Put yourself in Jakes position. You are a twenty year old drafted goalie with a signed contract and your pro team needs help and they look elsewhere to fine it. Had to be a bad day for him and not easy to "get up" for a game against a last place team.

I don't have a whole lot of patience for that. No one is gonna take it easy on you because you feel sorry for yourself. You wanna prove em wrong, play up to your ability on a consistent basis. He hasn't done that so that's why he's here now. You shouldn't be giving him a pass at this point. Passes are for 16 and 17 yr olds. He's a 20 yr old goalie who's played for team Canada at the WJC. The openent, especially a last place team, shouldn't matter.

The openent, especially a last place team, shouldn't matter. Perhaps using the term "giving him a pass" sends the wrong message. I guess I was more trying to make the comparison between Thursday's performance and his performance last night. I don't care how old a person is, if something happens to you that is disappointing it can effect your performance. I doubt it will effect his performance long term. In fact, it should serve to motivate him. All I'm talking about is the disappointment of being passed over having an effect on last night's performance. That's just human nature and age has nothing to do with it. I'm 60 years old and if I get passed over for a promotion I'm not coming into work the next day and bustin' my hump for the man. I fully expect Jake to dust himself off, get over the disappoint and get on with the business of proving to the Red Wings that they made a mistake. The "pass" is for one game and one game only.

He is in the OHL for his OA year because he is inconsistent just look at Thursday's game he was outstanding and last night at least two bad goals given up. Can they even trade him and get anything for him ?

Jake will be getting passed over a lot more if he doesn't learn to protect the top half of the net more. Don't get me wrong, I love Jake & think he could go far in his career. I also think he is one of the top 2 goalies we have ever had here in Saginaw. But something has changed in his game to where he is dropping down WAY too early a LOT of times in every game, and if you went back & watched the goals he's given up I'd bet you the bulk of them go up & over his shoulder.

In Jake's defense the first two goals went in off spirit sticks. The first one Mitch Webb tried to clear it and accidentally banked it in off Jake. The second one deflected off one of the defenseman's sticks. I thought all in all he didn't play that bad he made a couple great saves including the break away stop in the third. Now that said I agree he has got to learn to be more consistent and stop giving up soft goals like the third one. He does have a tendency to give away to many soft ones.

Mitch dropped Manchurek like 3rd period French. Most entertaining game of the year thus far, IMO

What's the deal with the schedule this year? I heard on the radio on the way home from the game that we had already played all 6 games against Windsor and we're done with them for the season. Seems really odd that you're not going to play a division opponent at least once in the second half of the season.

They will play all 8 games against the Whalers in the second half of the season. Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Jeez, I knew we played them a lot in the second half but I guess I thought we had already played them once or twice. Nothing like seeing Callaghan 6 times after Christmas...hope no one takes him on.
