“@markseidel: I fully expect the Saginaw Spirit to announce that Dave Drinkell will be the next GM. He is a very good man that will do VERY well! #Worker” For those interested, there is a bio on Dave on the Barrie Colts website. Click on TEAM, then HOCKEY OPERATIONS, then Dave's name.

They will be introducing their new GM, this Friday at 11 am Are you sure? The people in the comments on their Facebook post seem certain they'll be announcing a new arena! /jk Why do rumors of a new arena keep coming up? People in Midland seem certain a new arena will be built across from Dow Diamond for the Spirit. I was told by a Spirit official that as long as Richard Garber owns the team, it will not move from Saginaw. On top of that, they just signed a new 5-year lease with the Dow a couple of years ago. www.mlive.com/news/saginaw/index.ssf/2012/11/saginaw_spirit_signs_lease_ext.html

Wasn't there talk of it a few years ago, as basically a negotiating tactic? It's probably just well-wishing for a new arena/people in Midland wanting them to be closer. I don't know.

The lot across the street from the ballpark just got turned into a really big building. Where would they put this arena? Would they tear down people's houses in the neighborhood across M-20? They can't put it in the parking lot, because then, where would people park? The car dealership property isn't big enough for an arena. Its just wishful thinking from people from Midland who are feeling a little spoiled because a baseball team moved in close to them.

I don't pretend to know much about him, but Barrie has been a winning organization over the last 5 years. On paper, looks like a solid hire.

Very good hire, in my opinion. I like the amount of OHL experience he has especially as the Spirit build their franchise into a contender for seasons to come.
On a side note, I am really tired of the Facebook "friend-emies" who constantly want this team to move to Midland. Get over it and move on. Even more now with a team in Flint, this will be a rivalry that the both cities and the OHL will want to see for many years to come.

Is that the place where folks have a billion friends they've never met?

Makes things a lot easier!
