I haven't been excited for a Spirit season since they first arrived.
Team looks to have solid goaltending led by Cormier.
Defence looks huge on the backend. Middleton should come into his own. I am excited for Petschenig to play with him. Should be a very good pairing. Proner looks promising.
Offence led by Stephens Sadowy and Felhaber looks like it's gonna be a tough team to stop. Hoping for Kries to be good pickup.
Also regarding Captains... I am hearing that Petschenig and Brown will both wear the C. One on the road and one at home. Sadowy and Stephens with the other A. This is looking to be a very strong team. Hopefully these guys will do a great job leading the men

Jersey carousel! I will be wearing a Guy Carbonneau jersey to the evening scrimmage. It is a replica version of the one he wore at the Legends Warmup Skate for the 100th Anniversary Game of the Montreal Canadiens back in 2009. I may also wear a funny hat. I haven't decided which one yet.

I'm bummed. Won't be able to make any of the scrimmages so my first taste of live hockey for the year will be Friday. If someone could post notes from today and tomorrow, that'd be great.

Kreis looked really good. Played with Coskey and Stephens. Really slick playmaker. Goalies were a mixed bag. Only Murdaca and Bonnello played. As it was a scrimmage and the d wasnt playing physical at all so goalies didnt have much help.
Will post more after the 5pm scrimmage

Bennett is listed as Injured on the roster.
edit: on a complete side note Artemov is going to be competing at the Traverse City NHL prospects tournament with the New York Rangers.

Some quick notes. Sadowy crushed it tonight and scored 4 or 5 (hard to tell with no announcements)
Best line today in both scrimmages was Coskey-Kreis-Stephens.
Gilmour was excellent in the face off circle and only lost 3-4 face offs all day.
Barwell didn't play scrimmage #2.
Niemelainen is possibly the smoothest skating dman i have seen. Looks like he is gliding, no effort in his stride. Have to see it to understand what I mean.
I definitely think Kreis can slip into the top 6 this year. The Saginaw scout I talked to seemed to be really high on him.

Thanks for the updates. Saw an NHL mock draft that had Niemelainen in the 1st rd. Coskey was a great pick and even better that they landed him from Miami of Ohio.

Interesting Equipment observations. Cormier, Ovsjannikov, and Murdaca all with new Spirit colored pads, Bonnello wearing his yellow and white Titans (local team) pads.
Artemov's helmet had #8 on it, not #88. He might be switching? The training camp numbers were all a hodgepodge. Some guys managed to get their actual number, most guys did not.
I think that for the season, Coskey is wearing #87, Maksimov is wearing #25, and Gilmour is wearing #9 this season, based on some Twitter photos I saw, but lets call those unconfirmed for now.
All of the unsigned guys were wearing their own pads, pants, gloves, and helmets. The signed guys all had Spirit helmets, gloves, and pants.
Ovsjannikov played the first half of the evening scrimmage like he wanted to make the team. Second half, not so much, but he didn't have a ton of help. This was mostly because guys like Holmes weren't exactly preventing the onslaught and because Sadowy was on the other team.
To be honest, Team White was really stacked at forward. They had Sadowy, Stephens, Kreis, Gilmour, Coskey, and Maksimov. I think they did this on purpose because the blue goalies are the guys competing for the backup role. That way they can be evaluated equally, both of them facing the same difficult forward group in scrimmages.
The unsigned guys need to get out of dodge today if they want to keep NCAA eligibility. There will be some cuts from camp but they won't be the hard cuts. I would imagine they will go through most of preseason without making the hard cuts, especially since some of these guys will be going to TC and some might even get to spend a little time at NHL main camps. Sadowy should at least, and perhaps Stephens too.
