Hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. Now that we've all recovered from our respective food comas, it's time for hockey again. The Spirit finish the week with a home and home against the Spitfires. Saginaw is still looking to get the bleeding to stop and it my be a tough task to take care of that on the road tonight. But a win certainly would do wonders to help with our confidence.
GO SPIRIT!!!

The losing streak is now at 8 games. Spits score 3 times in the 3rd period to blow open a 2-1 game and win it 5-1. Is this really a team that is expected to compete for a title next year?

A few years ago Windsor was slapped with some pretty stiff penalties for bending the rules. Despite the set back, they now find themselves back on top the division. Meanwhile in Saginaw, the organization continues it's endless struggle to connect the dots. Crazy.

Its time do due something about this disappointing season. I realize Stephens is out but everyone expected this team to at least be in the top 5 or 6 in the conference.

Starting to wonder of Paliafito really set us up for success or if he just got out of dodge before some of his past trades/drafting blew up. I mean you can look back and see that we have come out on the losing end of most of his trades now especially Clarke, Perklin, trading Addison before his breakout year, and the Trocheck trade. Did he miss something with Felhaber that other GM's saw. Is he really coach able? Is that why he fell to us? And let's not forget the revolving door of defensemen that have come through, either traded for or drafted by Paliafito: Subban, De Sousa, Glass, Prophet, Orban, Henley, Holmes, etc.

Draft grid that was left was best in the league. Teams have player turnovers part of it. I don't think this team lacks talent. Stephens out hurts for sure. If they would of gone .500% these last 8 games we would be 1 point out of 2nd. I would like to see them get Nichol in goal from Guelph.

Nichols I think would be a good pick. I'd like to see Day from Missy back in the states!! I think we need a good defenceman. I would send Felhaber, Stewart, Clarke to get him, but I know it would take much more.

Draft grid that was left was best in the league. There is no possible way to know that without even a half season for this draft class and besides and contending team is based on drafts 2 or 3 years in the past as those would be your 18 and 19 year old core.

GOOD come back from an 3-0 start to win 5-3. Niemelainen was really good tonight. Good job boys!

I have been very negative over this losing streak, but its time to give credit where credit is due about last nights game. Its obvious at this game that these guys have talent. A few things that I noticed:
Cormier very solid even after coming in cold, great work. Bennett effort level is outstanding, never gives up and creates chances. Barwell found himself always around the puck. Felhaber looked much better and should build from this. Niemelaine was extremely solid on the back end, got many pucks through and was rewarded for that. Gilmour was much better on draws and provided a lot of pressure on the forecheck which created there turnovers Brown played a real solid game and I noticed on the bench keeping the guys into this, true leader. Coskey played his best game of the season, bright future ahead.
AND THE POWERPLAY UNIT WAS GREAT!! WE ACTUALLY CONTROLLED THE PUCK AND LOOKED GOOD.

Whatever the problem is with the Spirit, it isn't Kris Bennett. Works his tail off every shift. Getting rewarded for it much more this season than last.
Niemelainen looks like he is really hitting his stride.
Coskey starting to adapt to OHL.
One of Barwell's best games as a Spirit.
That was a DOMINANT effort over the last two periods. Where has that team been for the last 8 games?

Where has that team been for the last 8 games? Wait...what? A young team with lots of new pieces is figuring out how to play both in the league and with each other? I know you're not one of the ones railing on the team but I think this post is important. The other thing not to forget is that many people are playing up a line with Stephens out. If you lose a second or third line guy, someone can step up and it's not that big of a deal...lose one of your top 2 guys and it becomes a problem for a building team.

Not that its relevant, but how did Stewart not get the check of the game Saturday. I've not seen a harder body check live than that one.
