No surprise here. Windsor will be bidding to host.

If Saginaw was in the QMJHL I feel like we would have already hosted it by now, because our building would be one of the better arenas in that league, but by the standards of the newer OHL arenas, Wendler is a good arena but lacks the things that the CHL wants from a Memorial Cup arena. The thing is, a 7500 seat building would be too big for our city, so I'm not sure what we do.
I once wrote about an idea to revamp the OHL draft process and the response I got was that it is in the OHL's best interest to attract the best players, not maintain a competitive balance, which I get. In the same vein it is in their best interest to maximize revenue, not maintain a competitive balance when it comes to hosting the big events. I feel like this is going to always keep us on the outside looking in. Its bad enough that we can have players play in the Canada/Russia series but not host the Canada/Russia series because we are in Michigan, the CHL top prospects game has moved to NHL sized arenas, and the league took away the all-star game which gives us zero marquee events we can host.

No surprise here. Windsor will be bidding to host. And I'm sure they'll get it... unless London bids as well.

London has said previously that they would not be bidding to host in 2017. I believe I read Barrie and Ottawa also had some interest in bidding. But at the end of the day, I'd be shocked if Windsor didn't get it.

Almost sounds like Windsor was the only OHL city to actually bid on the event.

Congrats to Windsor! Maybe they would be willing to trade Vilardi for Stephens so they could make a good run.
