Murovich scores with 19 seconds left to give Saginaw a 3-2 lead. Spirit kill the last 19 seconds to win it over the league leading Hounds 3-2 in regulation time. Sounds like Van Buskirk played very well. Zaborsky and Chappell with the other Spirit goals. And I see there was finally a good size crowd with the announced attendance at over 4900. Great win, especially after last night. We needed this one bad.
Biggest crowd of the season tonight with 4949 fans at the Dow. Did Spirit fans decide to come out to a game, or were there lots of Soo fans in attendance?

The crowd was great. There were some Soo fans but mostly Spirit fans. Why was Pat Asselin a scratch? Van Buskirk looked great. He had some big saves to keep them in this game.

Why was Pat Asselin a scratch? Cam and Homer mentioned on the radio broadcast that Ryan McDonough was out due to a "lower body injury". Didn't here any comment about Asselin being hurt or not. If he isn't hurt then donjohnson is on to something regarding the possibility of a trade.

Breen was walking around with his arm in a sling tonight aswell...

I thought I heard them say "lower body injury" regarding Ryan McDonough but I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the 1st time, right?? Hope Breen isn't dealing with the same injury as before.

The ice was terrible and has been for the last few games. It never does fully frezze. It's too warm in the building, they but down way too much water and so much nonsense goes on between periods, the ice does not get enough time to set. I'm sure the league will be contacting the team.

TV 5 noted Asselin as a healthy scratch during their highlights tonight, and also called it "interesting since he's the 3rd leading scorer in the league."

The ice was horrible, I wonder if Watson asked the EC staff to turn the temp up to slow down the hounds a bit? ;D
But seriously, when I worked on the renovations at the EC, the ice making equipment was a huge issue then. It's only gotten worse, after all it's 35 years old! When they had a "computer glitch" before the season and the ice melted, that was our first clue to the problems we're going to have this year. I think they are going to have to do a complete renovation of the ice making equipment, right down to new coils in the floor this summer. It only makes sense, the equipment today is so more energy efficient than that 35 year old system.

It's definetly time to invest in some new ice machines. In the past I've heard players from other teams talk about how we have the worst ice in the league, and our stone age equipment probably isn't helping. If we want to host the Memorial Cup in the future, I think the new ice machines are a must.

However, a new ice plant is no guarantee that you will have good ice. You also need to have people who know how to make and maintain the ice. Just ask anyone who skates at the new Midland Civic Arena. That facility is only 2 years old but they still haven't trained the city staff that works there how to make and maintain the ice. For a new facility the ice is not much better than it was at the old Midland Civic Arena.

I've skated at Bay City, Saginaw Bay, and the EC. The EC has the worst ice. Something has to do done to correct it. Reducing the amount of activities on the ice between periods, so that the zambonis can get on earlier would really help. There were places on the ice that were still wet at the end of the second period. Better Zamboni drivers would help too.

While I agree with reducing the intermission activities, the main problem is the equipment. In year one, a patch was done on the equipment that probably was not meant th last 4-5 years. Now they already have the ice melting once this season, what happens if the equipment goes down the day of a game? Saginaw can't even think about hosting the Memorial cup until that equipment is replaced.

They used to keep the arena much colder. In the first few years, around the end of the 1st period a cold draft (actually it felt like an Alberta Clipper coming through) could be felt. I would be for keeping the arena colder if the ice improved, because the current situation is not acceptable. That and the Zamboni drivers put down way too much water.
