Hmmm. And dated just after the second post on the thread, too.
But I'm sure it's just a coincidence............

It had to be a sell out last night. For only the second time this season we had people sitting next to us. There seemed to be empty seats up top (maybe no shows?) I did hear Fic say on the post game show it was indeed a sell out.

I did hear Fic say on the post game show it was indeed a sell out. you must have left early...lynn's lunchbox clearly (for her) announced the sellout and then made everyone yell which was perfect for me since i had three pre-teen boys screaming like girls behind me. i'm guessing the empty seats up top were from groups buying a block of tickets or a whole section and then not using them all. There was a comment either in this thread or another about our building being louder than the 9000 seat arenas, well...it reared it's ugly head last night, man, the Dow was rockin'!

To be honest, I try to block out all that extra "entertainment" stuff. "Let's make some noise for'em" echos through my mind too much. :-(

Not sure if anyone noticed the story that ran in the Snews on Christmas day that Constantine wrote, but it was a bottom of the barrel choice for a topic. www.mlive.com/spirit/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1198596024295830.xml&coll=9A slight drop of a whopping 166 fans per game was apparently enough dirt to write a story by trying to give the impression that alarm bells should sound by a decline in Spirit attendance over the first half. This year we have a team with 25 great kids and an outstanding coaching staff (and a team that's probably 15-20 points ahead of the experts predictions) and he finds a story to talk about a decrease of 166 fans per game? If the decrease was 500 or 600, it may warrant a story, but 166? I know Christmas Day is a very slow news day, but to pick up and write a story that amounts to absolutely nothing to anyone around these parts proved to me why he's still working for the Snews and not SI or even the Freep! Why not a story on a couple of kids or coaches and what they did over the break while back home with their families - what their parents do, their siblings, etc. - things that people would actually read or take an interest in! 35 paragraphs on a topic that really isn't news to anyone is just plain laziness. I guess if it aint dyin' or bleedin' it ain't good readin'.

My only purpose in starting this thread was to provide the data to people because this is always a topic of conversation amongst us die hard fans on this forum. By the way, with Saturday night's sellout, the average per game is now only 77 behind last season. That's only 2% behind last season after 15 home dates. If the team keeps playing the way they have been I suspect it won't be long before the attendance is actually ahead of last season.

I could actually handle this story, even though I think he poached it from this thread. However, there is NO story in today's paper about last night's game--a pic of Jiri Fischer, but not even a story about him (that I could find). What is up with that?

Of course there wouldn't be - a sellout crowd, a sweep of Plymouth for the first time ever and a 5-game win streak after three vets were dealt. There are just too many positives for MC to write about. Good news doesn't sell papers.

To put Saginaw's attendance in a little more perspective, here are the attendance stats for the OHL this season ranked by percentage change from last season:

Marie +3.07% (played all home games during 06-07 season in new arena) Erie +2.49% Kitchener +2.30% Ottawa +0.10% London -0.01% Brampton -0.19% Plymouth -1.63% Saginaw -2.01% Belleville -2.36% Guelph -3.05% Peterborough -4.92% Sudbury -6.54% Barrie -6.74% Mississauga St. Mikes -7.67% (compared with Mississauga Ice Dogs attendance last season) Owen Sound -11.72% Kingston -12.80% Niagara - 1st season, relocated from Mississauga OHL League +4.99%

Hi Guys
Happy pre-new years
There was an article in the SN....regarding Saturday's game...I don't know exactly why, but there were 3 sports sections in Sunday's SN....there was also an article with pics of Jiri Fischer and the biggest news story in local sports, mr. mccarty going to Flint....he he!

Hope you all had a safe and happy holiday, and are looking forward to 2008...i am actually not looking forward to the ball dropping...because i end up making resolutions to myself that I have no intention of keeping...it's sort of deflating...ha

Thanks, Bill--I couldn't believe it when I didn't see an article, but it must have been in print rather than on m-live. Appreciate the information!

Not even a quarter of the news makes mlive.

Just about the only thing I ever look for on m-live is Spirit news--til now, it's always been there!
