And being the "equal opportunity critic" that I am one of the best has to be getting Ryan McDonough from Sudbury for Chase Crowder. There were some picks involved but as I recall it was basically McDonough for Crowder.

I agree, the McCann trade didn't work out well. But getting McCann from Kitchener for Jean-Michel Rizk was a good deal in my opinion because Saginaw also ended up receiving Jack Combs later that summer.
I think the worst trade Saginaw ever made was dealing Chris Thorburn to Plymouth for Taylor Raszka. The Spirit could have gotten so much more I believe.
One of the best trades I think the Saginaw Spirit ever made was dealing goaltender Mike Brown for Michal Birner and Jeff Weber. Weber provided leadership as an overager and Birner was a pleasure to watch the season and a half he was here.

When I first saw this thread, the first trade that instantly popped into my mind was the Joe McCann for Vaclav Meidl. I'll never figure out how that guy was an NHL draft pick. I can skate faster than him.
And I also agree...the Brown for Birner and Weber was great. He got away with robbery on that deal. The McDonough trade was also a good one.
I still don't know if I'll ever decide if it was a good trade or a bad trade, but I still wonder about the Torquato for O'Marra deal every now and then...

That is one that obviously has been debated here to exhaustion but it is probably the only one we will come up with that deals more with time than talent. If I was a gambling man, I would bet that both O'Marra and Torquato will end up being about the same caliber of player in the Minors/Pro's. However, last year's benefit being equal, having "0" production this year probably leans toward a bad trade because of time. Nevertheless, that one was definitely not the best or worst trade ever. My vote would be Geoff Platt traded for Sean Casey, Mike Melinko and a 4th round 2005 pick(Dustin Eckelman)

The Platt trade involved Sean Courtney, not Sean Casey. Casey played 1st base for the Detroit Tigers and I'm guessing was still a better skater than Sean Courtney.

One of the best was getting Michal Birner for Mike Brown. I believe there were 3 teams involved but don't remember the specifics.

One of the best was getting Michal Birner for Mike Brown. I believe there were 3 teams involved but don't remember the specifics. It was a 3-way deal between Saginaw, Barrie, and Owen Sound but I don't recall all of the specifics. Saginaw dealt Brown to Barrie and then he ended up in Owen Sound with Weber and Birner ending up here. I do not recall who Barrie ended up with.

Here is how the Mike Brown trade broke down.
Brown was traded by Saginaw on December 9, 2004 to Barrie for right winger Michal Birner, goaltenders Jeff Weber and Chris Rowan and a 5th round draft pick in the 2005 OHL Priority Selection. Brown would then get traded that same day to Owen Sound with a draft pick for goaltender Dan LaCosta and a draft pick.

Yeah that was a good deal then if we got Birner and Weber in the same deal. Weber was very popular with the fans and despite being an OA on a team that was not going to make the playoffs, had a great attitude. Too bad he could not have stuck around longer.

That 5th Rd pick became Tristin Llewellyn - man, I wish he would have played here! 165 PIM's last year in 53 games in the USHL. Playing for the University of Michigan this year.
