I decided what the heck ill start the thread.
Few questions I have.
1. Will we see this New "Goon" in the lineup tonite ?
2. How will the Spirit respond to playing Pat Asselin for the first time since the trade.
My prediction is Spirit win 4-2 with Murovich scoring on the empty net and Pachis gets his first OHL goal tonite.
LETS GO SPIRIT!!!!

Asselin scores the "Teddy Bear" goal. Oh what would Mr. Colbert say about a former Spirit causing all those bears to rain down? Not too worried yet, this team seems to play ok from behind. As for the Murovich prediction, he's the guy who was in the box when Patrick scored his power play goal. Third penalty in the first 7 min. ouch.

Tied up 2-2 heading into the 3rd period. Saginaw briefly held a 2-1 lead with goals from Jack Combs and Ryan McDonough, but Brett MacLean answered back for the Generals. So far we've held Tavares in check tonight as he has just one assist, which is probably a season low for him, lol.

...and WOW - our new 'goon' must be so horrific that the coach would rather play a player short than dress him, since we are dressing only 17 tonight (plus the goalies).

From what I hear the new "goon" is not ready to play yet. Some sort of injury thats healing I believe.

Actually, the "Teddy Bear goal" was dislallowed because the whistle had blown before the puck went in. There was a mad scramble in front of the Spirit net. I couldn't tell who poked it in, But Asselin's dad told me it was Patrick. His dad also said Patrick and his family are very happy having him playing so close to home. When he played in Saginaw, he was only able to get home several times a season. Now, he's home a couple of times each week.
Murovich's first penalty was coincidental with one to Tavares. They were so tied up in front of Saginaw's net that it almost looked like they were making love. On Ty's second penalty (right after they both exited the penalty box), he practically attacked JT. Not too much later, he got the third one for an infraction behind the Gens' net. Guess his pregame instructions were to guard Tavares very close.
Ice at the GM Centre appeared to be horrible. Guys were stumbling all night. Our kids should have been used to those conditions, though.

That's not how I read it. I think you are reading too much into it. Basically all he said was that none of the injuries/illnesses were a surprise to anyone & that Edwards told him that he will get on the phone & get us some help. That's all.

How can you not read that into the article....
No doubt in my mind Watson is calling out Edwards. Read the article again, sounds like he is saying - its no susprise that we don't have anyone to fill in based on recent trades...i.e. no pick ups and trades for picks.
It would seem to be that the light roster would be a direct result of the failure to get anything of substance done. What are we waiting for.....man, why didn't they get going when they knew what they needed and most importantly what they have to move. Isn't a little late.
Quick, tell me how many OHL teams playing with 15 skaters have been successful...

ok, i re-read the article and i do think that Watson WAS calling out Donny Boy a little bit.
However, i DO NOT feel like it was about trades, etc.
I think all that he wants, is another baby (oops, sorry thought the thread was about Ace of Base)
Seriously though, i think Watson was hinting that he need some warm bodies on the bench and he doesn't care who they are, just some people that can pick up a shift or two and let the top couple lines rest.
For those of you out there that are living in last years trading excitement, STOP HOPING NOW. We are not going to be buyers, we will be sellers. Expect players like Williams and Combs to be dealt for either young mid-level prospects or mid round draft picks. Depending on the needs of teams out there as the deadline approaches, the value of these guys will go up or down accordingly.

I know the OHL is all about preparing players to play at the next level, either the NHL or minor pro leagues, but isn't trading a player, especially those of high school age, tough on these kids when it comes to school work?
I never changed schools while growing up, but I knew some who did and it took them a while to get used to their new school and get up speed with their classes.
Some of the OHL players get traded like a used car. That's got to be tough on their schooling. It's probably not as big a problem for those out of high school.
