Jan Mursak, Nigel Williams and Parker VanBuskirk are now members of the Belleville Bulls. See the Spirit web site for more information. What do you all think of this trade?

Still trying to digest this trade...obviously it's for the future but I thought we should have gotten a little more back than what we actually did. Mursak is a very good player, but I think he struggled this year without all of the playmakers we had last year. Sounds like we may possibly have our goalie of the future in this trade, depending on how long Daniels sticks around, but we won't know about that for a while. Honestly I didn't care much for Williams's play this year. He's decent but selfish at times, IMO. But nonetheless our defense does take a hit because we don't have a whole lot of guys to begin with.
The jury is still out on this trade. Obviously it's a nice package for Belleville, but we won't find out how good this trade is for us for quite some time.

bpfox, i'll reply to your thread as well ;D
if it were me...i'd trade combs if the right offer came along at the deadline...otherwise, he'll be one of the best OA's in the league.
This is a tough deal to look at in the present because obviously, we lose two drafted players and don't get much back for the current season.
I actually heard about this trade during the game today and I was told that we were getting THE BEST goalie in the '90 class. That is the reason I look to this as a solid trade. If we would have traded Mursak and Williams during the offseason, someone would have "sold the farm" for them. Unfortunately, both of them (Williams especially) have played down their value so to get the top goalie in the 90 class and some picks seems to be about an even trade.
Note to Don Edwards and G&G: You need to get some fighters on this team ASAP!!! Fans need a reason to come to games and unfortunately, fighting does that, just ask Mickey Redmond.

WOW...this is an UNBELIEVABLE TRADE if your Belleville....I mean wow.
The Bulls get JAN MURSAK who is arguably one of the premier forwards available. At least Kingston got 2 players and five picks for Emmerton...and then to give up Nigel Williams as well. At least get back a top four younger D for Williams, and maybe a third. Then you get Pasqualie and a third for Mursak...throw in Buskirk.
So is this deal any good. Might as well make plans for playoffs cause it AIN'T going to include the Saginaw Spirit.
Considering the team just beat Kitchener, Soo and Kitchener, I was shocked that they would trade so much away and not add any young players to their roster.
Maybe they should consider trading away the bonehead who made this deal....

Your kidding right? This deal is no where near as bad as you make it out to be. Look at it this way. If you were just going to go after the young goalie you would have to have given VanBuskirk and at least a third round pick to make that deal.
Mursak has been a good player but has underachieved this season. His value is also limited by the fact that he won't be around next season and as an Import pick has limited marketability. The two picks Saginaw got would be more than enough compensation on a straight up deal.
That leaves Williams. I am sure Watson was getting tired of this guy and his lazy, selfish play. Sure, the kid has talent, but I wouldn't give you much for that ten cent head of his. Consider the trade for Williams to be the player and the third rounder we didn't have to give up to get the goalie and this thing is a pretty even trade if you ask me.
I will go out on a limb here and predict Saginaw still makes the playoffs and has improved it's team next year in the process. I could be wrong, but let's be honest, I very rarely am. Peace.

I don't think it's right to count Saginaw out of the playoffs just yet. In all likelihood, it's gonna be either us or Owen Sound getting that 8th seed. Right now we're tied in points and have 3 games in hand. Yes, we need to play better, but I still expect us to make the playoffs this year.

What a great idea, lets keep trading away players and not getting any players in return. This new thing the Spirit have that they call a general manager is a USELESS waste of space and money in the Spirit organization!!! Good luck Jan, I look foreward to watching you score against us when you return to the Dow

I think this was a great trade. Mursak is not one the premier forwards. This guy didn't learn anything in Red Wings camp while he was there. Starting in the second half of last season his production has dropped. Nigel Williams has a great slap shot. he can't handle the puck and takes dumb penalties-usually after passing the puck to the other team just outside our own end. His decision to sit on the puck with 24 seconds left in the first period was BAD. Warren Holmes wanted to benched the kid for the rest of the game after that (I was listing to the game also). Williams is a case of addition by subtraction. Parker did alright. Pasquale and the draft picks, IF they pan out, will really help this team in the future.

His decision to sit on the puck with 24 seconds left in the first period was BAD. Actually, if you were listening you might have heard the coach say 'STAY, STAY!' So for once he was following direction.

So will Pasquale see his 1st action between the pipes at home Thursday night against Erie?? I hope they don't just let this kid sit most of the rest of the season. Give him a chance to win the #1 job. He just might do it.

i doubt it...despite the losses, IMO Daniels has been playing well. I thought he made a lot of nice saves yesterday and he's deserving of the minutes he's been getting. Pasquale will either have to show a lot of talent in practice or Daniels will have to play himself out of a spot for Pasquale to see a bunch of ice.

This deal would not have been that bad if (like someone else mentioned) the Spirit would have received more in return. Draft picks are a crap shoot and do NOTHING for help this year. Didn't get any roster help for this year on the Asselin trade and not much more here.
Glad to see Williams go. Was absolutely pathetic yesterday again. Can't handle the puck, makes poor decisions, refuses to hit anyone, and his hustle is lethargic at best. Nice young man, but would rather see someone else fill his spot.

I think belleville really under paid for this trade.
Trade Breakdown -
Edward Pasquale for Parker VanBuskirk = Great Trade Nigel Williams for Brendan Taylor = Underpaid Jan Mursak for 2 - 3rd Rounders = Underpaid
IMO you could of not traded Mursak and received everything. Especially when you look at the trades previous. Cory Emmerton for 2 players and 5 picks. Wayne Simmonds for Chris MacKinnon and 2 - 2nd rounders.
No doubt in my mind that everyone on this forum is very critcal of Nigel Williams defensive play, however he is worth more then we received. He has a great shot and is a big bodied good skating defenceman, although his defensive play is suspect we still should of gotten more.
I dont care if Jan Mursak has been in an offensive slump. With Jans skating ability and the size of the ice in belleville he will skate circles around the other teams defenceman.
Last year the Ryan OMarra trade set the precident for future trades by other teams. I would of thought that the Simmonds and Emmerton trade would of done the same thing. But apparently not ....
