Just a couple of notes on this thread;
Getting picks is not getting nothing. Picks are very important and not just based on who you draft. More often than not, picks are used to pick up the players you need. If you don't have them, you can't use them. Thanks to Bob's go for broke deals last season the pick cupboard was pretty empty. I have no problem with Don Edwards restocking the shelves.
Not sure where everyone got the idea that Edwards is just dealing players for picks and leaving the team short. I know most like to refer to the Asselin deal but more often than not overagers only bring picks in return. Most of the time it's just a pick. We got two for Asselin. Make a note here, two is better than one.
I know folks are upset about trading Mursak and don't think we got enough for him. Keep in mind, you can't compare Mursak's trade with any of the others mentioned when trying to assign value. You can only compare him to other Europeans traded. Imports have a limited marketability and therefore simple economics tells you they have limited value. Most of the Europeans in this league are high profile players. Teams that have two are not going to drop a high profile player just to add another one. It just doesn't happen that way.
As far as the Williams part goes, we got more for him than we gave for him and most of the posters here were getting tired of his on ice decisions. Yes he has a hard shot, but for some reason his sights are off this season. When was the last time one of those hard slap shots found the net. You don't get any points for hitting the boards. Besides, Comries shot is just as hard and he has more upside potential. Did anybody think we missed Nigel Thursday night? I didn't.
I hope they hold on to Combs, McDonough and Daniels for the balance of this season. Combs and McDonough will be very good overagers and will provide the kind of leadership that the young Spirit will need next season. Unless some team was willing to pay too much for Daniels, I wouldn't trade him. I don't think there is a team out there willing to pay too much. Maybe Kitchener. For a team who is going to the Memorial Cup, their weak point is goaltending. So you never know.
I am still not sure how history will view this trade, but for right now, I'm ok with it. Peace.
