The Whalers hired Greg Stefan as their head coach yesterday (Wings' fans will remember him as their goalie back in the late 80s-early 90s)
Stefan has worked for the Whalers' before, and was currently the Carolina Hurricanes' goalie coach. Mike Velucci was "bumped" upstairs--he was already the GM, and added a VP title to that. Velucci had already had to take some time off this season for health reasons, so this is possibly related to that.
Point being--What is Todd Watson thinking today? This would almost certainly have been his job had he stayed. It's obviously water under the bridge, because he didn't stay. But moving a young family and starting a new job that is definitely a work in progress is a big deal for anyone. But I'll bet it's worth at least one deep sigh on his part.
