www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/2021/03/10/ohl-games-should-start-soon-with-contact-sport-minister-lisa-macleod-says.htmlTake it with a grain of salt. Here's a couple relevant bits: “I’m feeling great right now,” she said when asked about the possibility of the OHL returning soon, following an unrelated virtual announcement of a tourism task force to help the province’s hard-hit sector. “I know that there are still a few outstanding details with the Ministry of Health and chief medical officer of health. My team is feeling very confident that we’ve got the OHL to a place where they will be able to safely play with contact, providing certain conditions. “So I’m asking folks just to wait over the next two to three weeks,” MacLeod added. “We know that they’ll also need some financial compensation, so we’re looking at what that might be as well.”

Funding has been approved for 17/20 teams...I'll let you guess who's not included in that. I don't know about Erie but Flint/Saginaw should both have pretty good teams so I can't see them scrapping a season without funding but I'm sure this is going to hurt us financially to play even an abbreviated season. Good thing cars have been flying off the shelf during the pandemic, all the salespeople I've talked to say that they can't keep up with demand.

The OHL has always operated as a “we” and not a “me” so I’m sure that whatever funding the OHL gets, even if based on 17 Ontario based teams, will be split between all 20 teams.

While I don't disagree with you on the normal we/me attitude, can you imagine how much people would be screaming in the US if their tax dollars were funding teams from Canada? Most of the Twitter comments were people yelling about why are we (Ontario) funding hockey and not healthcare. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next week or two.

I wish this was a bad April Fools joke but it sounds like Ontario is going to announce today another month of shutdowns which should kill any hopes of a 20-21 season. So sad for these players who have sat around and done nothing other than work out and practice all year. I saw someone on Twitter mention that this could set the OHL behind NCAA recruiting since they've been able to play and there's no guarantee that we'll even start on time in the fall.

It sure seems like it's almost the point of no return for a OHL hockey season to start. Ontario must have some pretty strict rules against activities such as this.

Ontario is shut down until May 20 now... Police can pull people over and ask why they left the house...I expect to hear an announcement very soon that says they are finally canceling this season.

The WHL has canceled their postseason (they are going to finish their 24-game season, crown division champions, and call it a year). Another potential ominous sign for the OHL.
Meanwhile the QMJHL wrapped up their season and are starting their playoffs this weekend.
