Happy to see Chernyshov is officially official, but losing out on Pettersson is a bummer. Can't fault him for the reasons listed, I suppose. I thought it would be a challenge to get him here this season.

I thought it would be a challenge to get him here this season. Still think we keep that import spot open until the deadline. Leave the possibility there to get him after the WJC if he's not getting time in the SHL. If the door is still shut then, maybe see if someone is willing to move a half decent import on the cheap.

If we don't add a 2nd import do we keep his rights for next year? I would think that if we were to add say an import defenseman that we would have to waive his rights and he'd go back in the pool for next year's import draft.
Here's my first stab at lines for next year:
Forwards: Mangone - Misa - Chernyshov Willis - Hay - Moore Epperson - Gervais - Sima Cloutier - Harmer - Zhilkin Storch
I think it would be good to get a left handed depth player (an Aiden Castle type player) to add to this bunch. Either that or maybe someone is signed out of training camp.
Defense: Parekh - Guo Bishop - Forgione Glavin - Jones Sienko
We need help on the back line FOR SURE...if this is the defense we're going to run with we may as well start the rebuild this year instead of trying to win again.
Goalies: Oke Papineau
Oke should be one of the top goalies in the league based on his numbers last year and should keep us in a lot of games. It will be nice to see what Papineau has as Oke will likely be invited to a training camp like he has the past couple of seasons and Papineau will start the exhibition games.

Only 18 days away from Saginaw's first pre season game. Would probably expect a few more signings to go down between now and then. Will need warm bodies while guys are away at NHL camps and also for the future. Would like to see Zander Kechego (U18 2024 pick) get signed. Not alot of F's to get from the 23 class. Maybe the kid from Alpena? Kaszubowski? 24 class will probably have another signing in there. Bordeaux's kid recently committed to Western. Not gonna lie, was expecting the nepo signing but relieved that he is responsible enough to not force his kid into a spot. Wish him luck though.

kingpin you're way more in tune with the prospects than I am...are there any defensemen out there in our system who could surprise us? Right now that 3rd line of Glavin and Jones makes me nervous especially since Glavin has a tendency to get in fights and we'll need some depth if he gets a suspension.
Call me a pessimist but unless we can find some decent bodies on defense, I think we're going to struggle in the standings (even with a veteran like Oke in net) and we should be trading away players for picks/players at the deadline this year. If Rehkopf got 10 picks, just imagine the haul we'd get for Zayne especially when he's likely to be in the league next year. I could even see Mangone moving as well if he has the kind of season I expect him to have.
Again, super pessimistic take but if I was an opposing coach, I'd be pressuring our defense all night long and it will force Lazary to shorten the bench which we can't do all year long.

I already had him listed as the 7th defenseman in my projected lines. I'm not saying Glavin, Jones, Sienko are bums...I never thought Bishop would see the ice last year and he played a boatload of minutes and did really well. Glavin has never really played significant minutes and I just don't know what we're getting with Jones and Sienko. I think I know what we're getting with Forgione and he would be one the weakest OA's in the league so I think we have to upgrade that somehow. Guelph has a ton of 04's and I'd love to see us steal Michigan native Tommy Budnick away but Guelph gave up 3 high picks for him last year so I'm guessing it would take a couple good picks to get him.

I agree that I wouldn't be counting on any of Glavin, Jones, or Seinko to carry heavy minutes this season. I think Guo and one of those 3 will be just fine as a bottom pairing. I also suspect that one of Glavin or Jones could be packaged for a decent 2nd pair D man. I've heard that Konnor Smith might be coming back to Owen Sound. I think he'd be a thrifty OA D man option. There's a second pair right there. Parekh and Bishop top line. It wouldn't be anywhere as star studded as last year but the conference isn't going to be as stacked either. Guys like Gervais, Moore, Sima, Hay, Bishop, Guo aren't going to be at the top of the scoring list but they are older players with that playoff experience and that's worth it's weight in gold. Honestly the real linchpin is that one of Harmer or Epperson HAVE to become top 6 forwards this year. Bringing in solid enough D men is cheaper than trying to build 3 lines. Remember the whole system is predicated on possession so that the defense doesn't have to defend as much. If the offense can't get entries, can generate shots, etc, that'll be the real limiter. Edit: Just scrolling through rosters, with an open import spot, I'd kick the tires on Urban Podrekar from Niagara. Quietly was efficient on an awful Ice Dogs team. He's not a big name but seems like a really good puck mover option. Maybe someone to target in November. Point is, there's options out there.

Another big deal(s) supposedly about to go down in the east. (We’re not involved). But this just reaffirms that most of the big guns are going east this year. We don’t have to be super stacked to challenge in the west this season. Get the right people.

We're only a week out from training camp...a bit surprising that we haven't seen a schedule or roster yet. Goslin had put on facebook that players arrive on the 25th so I'm guessing that it will be similar to past years with camp being Mon-Wed especially since they'll leave soon after that for our first preseason games in Kitchener.
I'm assuming they'll have some Blue/White games like normal...I'm interested to see how the defense looks. Sienko, Jones, Glavin, Forgione...last year I remember Hache set the tone in those games with some big hits...wonder if we'll see anyone try to step up and set the tone this year when roster spots are wide open on the defensive side.

I think this sinks things. Chernyshov out for 4-6 months. Idk. Soft sell in November if there are mid level. Just a gut punch. This also might another reason why he was willing to come over here vs staying in Russia. It's a rehab assignment to get him back up to speed before going to the AHL next year. x.com/BrockOtten/status/1825929400405119437

Wonder when this injury occurred and when the surgery was scheduled. All of the "news" was that he'd be going to the Sharks training camp. If he had surgery scheduled, that's total BS and did the Sharks even know about this when he was drafted??
