Pyatt and McNeill faced each other for the first time Friday night at Hartford, with Hershey taking a 5-4 victory. Neither of Our Guys figured in any scoring. The rematch is 1/13 at Hershey.

McNeill sent back to the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) today.
per the stingrays' website: McNeill, 20, began the 2007-08 campaign with South Carolina , registering 10 points (3g, 7a) and 14 penalty minutes in nine games before he was recalled to Hershey on Nov. 6. With the Bears this season, the 6-foot, 195-pound defenseman has collected nine points (1g, 8a) and eight penalty minutes in 25 contests.
“I wasn’t expecting to see Pat McNeill again, to tell you the truth,” Bednar said. “He played unbelievably for us when he was with us at the start of the year.”

Took awhile but I finally found it. McNeill injured a shoulder on Jan 12, and had not played since then, so that is probably why he is back w/ the Stingrays, at least for awhile. Particularly since George McPhee has been speaking favorably of him.

The report just came in from the Caps' FanFest (I have spies everywhere). Development Camp ended with a scrimmage, which ended w/ a shootout. McNeil played well--apparently recovered from the broken collarbone--and took the first shot in the shootout, on which he scored. My spies also told me that for the first time since they'd been in DC, there was standing room only at the Fan Fest today. The Caps' marketing department is busy striking while the iron is hot, no doubt!

It appears McNeill and our old nemesis Josh Godfrey not only both played in the Caps' 2nd preseason game against the Hurricanes, but were apparently on the same defensive pairing, and managed to pick up fighting majors 2 seconds apart. (against the Hurricanes, not each other......) Regrets that the box score is no longer on the Caps' webiste so I can give you the link. I found this ironic, to say the least!!

According to many sources including espn.com and hockeyfights.com it was Grant McNeill that was in the fight....however, NHL.com doesn't list Grant as a player or scratch for that game and does list Patrick as being in the fight...very confusing. Both McNeills played together for the South Carolina Stingrays last season. Here is a video of the fights: www.hockeyfights.com/forums/f9/carolina-washington-9-25-08-a-104767/#post1435346

I took a look at the video, dj. That's definitely not our McNeill, unless he suddenly goes about 6'3", 215. I should have thought about that--the Stingrays mixed the 2 of them up in box scores all the time last season when they were both in SC. Apparently the Caps are on their way to doing the same thing......

The huge number of injuries to the Washington Caps, particularly on their blue line, have essentially made McNeill Hershey's #1 D-man for the time being. He's getting a lot of minutes, and scored the winning goal Sat. night--short handed, no less--in a Hershey win. He was also either the game's first or second star, depending on if you read Hershey's site or the AHL site. The win was over Hartford, and Tom Pyatt also had a goal. Even better news for Spirit fans--McNeill appears to be outplaying our buddy Josh Godfrey, who has yet to score a goal and is +6---+5 of which came in a 10-0 win earlier this season.

Read a scouting report on Patrick which stated he would most likely be a career AHL player and perhaps only fill in at NHL level. The reporter thought Pat was not quite quick enough or strong enough on his skates.

capitals.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=810&id=46590This is an interview with various members of the Hershey Bears Calder Cup winning team of last season. McNeill is interviewed at about the 3:30 mark, or thereabouts. The segment entitled "Rookie Camp Travels" also will bring back some memories (although they won't be as good) as former Spirit nemesis Josh Godfrey is prominently featured. Josh, BTW, was a member of the Kelly Cup winning ECHL South Carolina Stingrays last season--both Caps affiliates were champions, speaking well for their drafting over the past few years.
