Stop your petty bickering! (all of you!) Too bad I already said another post was POTW - this would have challenged for the title!

First night nerves? Oh, ok then..forget everything I said. My mistake. Thought that they were flat and uninspired until there were 10 minutes left in the game. Sorry about that! I totally didn't consider the nerves.

. Someone PLEASE ask Craig Goslin if Ryan Berard asked for a trade in the summer...let me know what he says. I know Ryan. He did NOT ask for a trade this summer. He actualy had hopes of being the captain. I spoke with him at Wed. game and he was sad at the possibliltiy he would be traded due to the OA situation. He figured the team would keep Asselin, Zaborsky and Sinfield which left him out.

I stand by the fact he asked to be traded. It would explain but not excuse some of what happened. I have it on pretty good authority. I wouldn't expect him to ADMIT he wants out, would you?

I stand by the fact he asked to be traded. It would explain but not excuse some of what happened. I'm not sure I understand why this would explain what happened if he wanted to be traded. If anything, being sent home for a disciplinary issue has reduced his "market value" making a trade even less likely. If what you say is true about Berard wanting a trade during the summer, was he lying when he was quoted in this Saginaw News article back on August 29th about looking forward to being a leader for the team this season?? Something doesn't add up. www.mlive.com/spirit/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1188397278216390.xml&coll=9

Good question, but I would argue "LYING" is too strong a word. I think in any sport players can only be so honest about their intentions, a lot of this is handled internally. But I know what I know, and I certainly won't be swayed from a quote in the paper. Athletes and coaches certainly aren't 100 percent honest with the media. When Alex Rodriguez says he loves being in New York and doesn't want to play anywhere else, do you believe him?
When Red Wings players say they like playing for Mike Babcock, do you instantly believe them?
Gotta tow the party line sometimes. It usually will pay off for you in the long run. Asselin's towing the party line right now, not being disgruntled, hoping it pays off for him.

Good question, but I would argue "LYING" is too strong a word. OK, lying may have been a bit too strong of a word to use, I'll give you that. But comparing the quotes of a 20 year old junior hockey player with the likes of A-Rod or any high profile professional athlete is a bit of a stretch, too!!

Why? Protecting one's true feelings and agenda is the same for any person in any line of work. You can only be so publicly honest about how happy you are, how much you like your boss, etc.
Age and money being made is irrelevant. Again, in case you are missing the logic, I was hardly comparing their "situations" and lot in life, I'm simply pointing out that any athlete or coach isn't going to be able to "spill it all" whenever they feel like it.
If you want a Spirit example, I'll give you one. While talking to a couple of players a couple years ago down at a Skate with Players thing, they both thought Marek Kvapil was a bit of a "puck hog" and was "selfish" (their words, not mine). Do you really think it serves their purposes to get those quotes in the paper or on the radio or TV if they were asked about Kvapil? That's only common sense. I'll concur a lot of this is handled internally and should be, and Edwards has done a good job at keeping any displeasure from players from bubbling above the surface, I give him credit for that. But no player is dumb enough to admit he wants a trade unless he's willing to be sent home. Geoff Platt wanted out long before he was sent home. But he knew better than to publicly say so.
Some of you assume if Geoff Platt is quoted as saying "I'm happy in Saginaw" that it's so black and white, he couldn't possibly be secretly wanting out. Come on.

If Ryan Berard didn't want his true feelings "made public" then why did he tell you (or tell someone else who told you) about it?? By bringing it up in in this thread you have now made Berard's true feelings (according to you) public. We all know that players, parents, billets, team officials, newspaper reporters, and the like read this forum and the NOOF all of the time. When you log onto this forum you will typically see a number of "guests" who are only reading what's posted and not posting themselves. Right now as I post this there are 3 registered users and 6 guests logged on. I seriously doubt those guests are people in the tri cities who just happened to find the Spirit forum while web browsing and decided to read what was there just for fun. It's like I always tell my wife "if you want something kept secret you better keep it to yourself".

I give. Going around in circles. Have no idea what you're trying to say. Not trying to pick a fight, but I'm confused. Think what you want. Free country, etc.

He/she is supposedly brand new to this board only joining about a week or so ago but has done nothing but bash the team and spread falsehoods. I don't know who you are and really don't care but I can easily tell that you think you have inside info that is for the most part factually untrue. I know this for fact and won't explain how I know. What I really want to know is what is you beef? The real beef, not the cover story.

Free country, etc. Like I said, you brought up the issue of Ryan Berard wanting out of Saginaw going back to this summer, not I, not Frogger, not anyone else who posts on this forum. Then you talk about people not airing their true feelings in the media and other public forums to protect their best interests i.e. toeing the company line (words you used). Then in the same breath...er post.....you went ahead and divulged his true feelings for him (assuming it is in fact true). Get it now??
