Okay, I just realized that the two threads I was posting in, I was complaining in, so I figured we'll start this positive one.
What do I like about the current team?
How about Jack Combs. I'm happy to see him getting the ice time he's been getting. He was great in the shootouts last season, I'm glad to see him contributing more to the team this year, he's going to be great to watch.
Nigel Williams. Saturday night he got in several of his patented slapshots from the point, and scored on one of them...a beautiful goal. AND, no silly unnecessary penalties, even when he was frustrated. I'm glad we have him.
I'm just happy the hockey season has started again, another great year of hockey in Saginaw!
I have more, but I'll give other people the chance.

If anything, Combs could have been used more last year. I heard a rumor that he was behind some older more experienced players though. Can't remember who I heard it from. It's scary though to think that next year no Mursak, no Zaborsky, no Asselin, no Daniels, no Sinfield, no Nigel Williams, and possibly no Combs or McDonough if they can get minor league deals. We have no or little punch from 89 or 90 forwards, so if all those guys are gone, this team will be maybe the weakest offensive squad (but great on D) in team history. But as for this year, everyone looks like known commodities. It'd be nice to get a pleasant surprise from the newcomers and the draft picks. We'll see.

it's sad midlandpucks that it took you three paragraphs to get to the topic of the thread. One paragraph blasting last year, one already lamenting about next year, and then a couple generic sentences about hopes for this team. you're pissing people off here real quick and i'm becoming one of them!

I like the energy, Wed night, even though the soo was a head on the board, most of the action was in the soo end. Same for Sat night. I like the new guys, I think these kids (swarz, pachis and possibly allicock) will equal, maybe exceed the class of pyatt, and asselin. Jack combs is one of my favorites. I liked him from day one. I think he is a smart player with decent speed and good hands. He might be the tyler haskins of the group this year. I like the Jets pizza stand at the Dow (though I haven't had any yet), and of course the latest edition of the Spirit Dancers!!!

I don't like Jet's Pizza. But anyway.
Jack Combs just so happens to be the Covenant Health Care Player of the Week.
I was really impressed with Tyler Murovich on Wednesday night. He got a goal in his very first OHL game on Wednesday night. He was quiet Saturday, but I think he'll be a major player this season.

I like that Ryan McDonough is starting out like we thought he would last year, and looks like he wants to make the most of a second chance. I like that Ryan Daniels is back, no matter who is backing him up. I like that for year #5 I am sitting in the same seats, next to the same friends I have made over those years, and I like how those seats have led to me making many other friends at the Dow. I like Honesty Elliott singing the anthems. I like watching Jan Mursak and knowing there is a good chance I'll see him with a winged wheel some day, playing for my other favorite team. I like how Nigel Williams' defensive skills improved over last season (and hope they continue to do so) I like reading the Spirit Forum, and I even like reading it when people get (dj's words) pissed off, because lots of times the whole thing makes me laugh, and there are lots of days I can use that. And--here is my one, biggest negative-- I DON'T like the single biggest loss the Spirit suffered this season--losing Greg Brady. Friday will be my first Spirit broadcast ever that he hasn't done. All due respect to Cam and Warren--nobody does it like Brady.........

donjohnson: in the words of dr.evil - your opinion of me is in..con...se..quen...tial. really. but i'll really try and earn your affection, because it means a lot to me.
I will say - i liked "acin" and his post.
"Wah Wah Wah" is underrated. It should be used more often. Both in written and spoken dialect.
I will say - we're awfully early out of the gate to think that this draft class could surpass Pyatt/McNeill/Asselin. It'd be nice, but hopeful. If any of the new guys is a 2 time world junior gold medalist, it'd be great!

5 things i like about this years team in no particular order
1. Team Toughness- It's evident that the players wont hesitate to get fiesty if needed.
2. They play a full 60 minutes of hockey.
3. I like the play of our younger players.
4. I'm glad Nigel is back. I know he has no choice and he deserves the opportunity to play for
an NHL team but i dread the day he wears that yucky, revolting Av's Sweater. Nigel if you
read this nothing against you bud glad your here. GO WINGS!!!!!!
5. I saved the best for last some of you will agree some will disagree but everyone is entitled
to their own opinion. I truely believe that we have a Great orginization this year from the
Front Office, The GM, The Coaching staff, Scouting staff, and one important group which probally includes most of us The season ticket holders.
P.S. No im not getting paid to write this and not part of the Spirit Staff in anyway.

I agree with your post about management. I too am very happy with our current set up. While I believe it was a little harsh to send Mancini packing after making the playoffs two straight years, the only two times we HAD made it, I really didn't like his style of coaching. I thought our team was too reserved. I think Watson will do a great job, I think he has so far, and I like the decisions that are being made about who to bring in etc.

I have made my decision: I will reserve any official comment on management until after this season, at which point I hope to have more broadbased info upon which to base an opinion. This does NOT necessarily mean that I will never offer comment during the season. (Actually, count on it......) But no opinion will be legally binding until after the Spirit's official elimination this season, whenever that might be. I feel it only fair to let management know that I am giving them time to impress me, so they don't need to think only in terms of short term gain to curry my favor...............
