Here's a link to the gamesheet of the first Spirit game on September 21, 2002 vs. Sarnia
www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stats/official-game-report.php?game_id=4615
I had that link, my problem was the only roster I could find was the one from the OHL site but it had already been adjusted post trade deadline. Since Burgio had already been traded to Brampton, he wasn't on that final roster and that's how I missed him.
That said, it's looks to me like there were three American born players dressed for the Spirit that night, Brown, Kozak and Burgio. Now we know Brown didn't play, but he was dressed and at some point was on the ice. I can't tell you how much ice time Kozak and Burgio got, but we do know they didn't start the game. Since the Spirit only dressed 6 defenseman for that game it's a fair bet they both got their fair share of ice time. Technically speaking when the Spirit hit the ice for the first time, there were no American born players on the ice (as there were none in the starting lineup), but there were three on the bench.
Now here's a real trivia question for you. In that first game who was the other starting forward? The OHL web page lists Kellerman as the starting goalie, Bissonnette and Gibson as the starting defenseman and Thorburn and Yachmenev as forwards. Surely Saginaw didn't start the game short handed. So who was that 3rd forward? I have no clue. Peace.
