wow, things must be getting good with the team when you have to rip the trainer position to find something bad.
seriously though, I didn't even know the guy's name until he left.
Come on G&G, get your acts together and get someone back behind the bench to run out on the ice every fourth game...maybe we'll start winning these games in regulation then!!!

Trainers do a bit more than "run onto the ice every fourth game"

Sorry, dj, but you are wrong on this one. A good trainer--as Brian was--saves a team many player-games a year that would have been lost to injury or just plain chronic wear-down factors. A trainer's duties are way too complex and involved to go into here, but I suggest you talk with any elite athlete to find out if they think a trainer's duties are "running onto the ice every 4th game". And with numerous excellent university programs for athletic trainers in this state --among them CMU and SVSU--it's mind boggling that we have not hired one. For WHATEVER reason.

I have a question?
Was the guy at the end of the game wearing the blue gloves and carrying the defibaltor(sp) and first aid box not the trainer?
i know that the website makes no mention of him but hes been there every home game ive been to and the road game as well.
i can say i dont even know the one assistant coaches name.( the taller guy)
all i want to see is good hockey so names of trainers and coaches arent that important to me.

I don't care about his name (and I don't know the asst. coach's name either, gw!!) Just that we have a trainer, which according to this thread we do not. If we have one, I certainly have no further problem. As for the guy w/ the blue gloves, etc--maybe, maybe not. I can do emergency first aid and operate a portable defib. But I am light years from being a trainer.............

If I only had a nickel for everything that's been written on this board that wasn't true......but I digress.

So Barrie scored both a 5-on-3 and a 5-on-4 powerplay goal in the last minute or so to tie it!!!!! YIKES!!!! Was the penalty to Combs a good call or an "iffy" call?? At least Saginaw won and didn't give up that extra point to a Western conference rival.
Beats losing to Barrie 2-1 on a Bryan Little short handed goal with less that 5 minutes to play. Everyone remember that one??

I don't remember the penalty against Combs...girlfriend said she remembered it and it was a bad call.
This game should have been a blowout, and we almost blew it instead. We dominated them all night long, they rarely had quality chances. But our defense, in our own zone, is very unorganized right now. The first Barrie goal was ridiculous, we were pretty much in our own way. The offense is beautiful, great set up plays (an awesome one-timer set up RIGHT in front of the net that missed the target but was an NHL quality play), just our defense is very unpredictable.
The Mursak goal was amazing.
Sticking with my original prediction that Combs will be our top guy this season.
Very fun game to watch, exciting to see it go to overtime, but it never should have.

Agree about the defense, offense needs to learn how to put it in the net. Lots of quality shots, but way more should be going in than have.

I have a question? i can say i dont even know the one assistant coaches name.( the taller guy) His name is Steve Cooke and he is a very nice fellow. He was an assistant coach in Barrie last season and has previous experience as a head coach in Junior A hockey.

I thought it was the right call, and a horrible penalty to take. A tripping call along the side boards at center ice. Combs had a great game, but that 5 second brain fart almost cost us huge.

Barrie had a pretty good record last year - so my guess is he might know a thing or two. I think the team has done fine and will continue to get better. Let's not forget they played the Sault 3x already and they are undefeated and rank 1 in Canada. They should have beat Windsor and Belleville when shots were like 50-20. Maybe if our goalies would be more consistent the team would have a better record.

Yes I do agree that we should have beaten Bellevile but I think the shots were exagerated a bit. As for the Windsor game the only reason we made it to OT was the play of Ryan Daniels. Windsor had numerous scoring chances that he turned away. I think he was the second star of the game if I recall correctly
