I said before the season that Asselin would be traded around the deadline and I think I am going to move that prediction up. This is TOTAL SPECULATION but I see a need for a tough guy and it's no secret that Asselin would love to play his OA year with the Petes. Here is what I propose for a trade...
Petes Get: Patrick Asselin and 11th rounder (from Barrie)
Spirit Get: Justin Soryal and 6th rounder (from Sudbury)
Stats:
Asselin 05/06 - 68games - 23goals - 21asst - 44pts - 45PIM 06/07 - 68games - 27goals - 26asst - 53pts - 28PIM 07/08 - 14games - 09goals - 05asst - 14pts - 11PIM
Soryal 05/06 - 53games - 03goals - 03asst - 06pts - 136PIM 06/07 - 60games - 26goals - 27asst - 53pts - 125PIM 07/08 - 09games - 01goals - 06asst - 07pts - 33PIM

I think you are right and he will be traded real soon to either Oshawa or Peteborough, mostlikely Oshawa as they have room for another OA and need a linemate for Taveres and mcLean. could happen this week.

Would be surprised to see an overage traded for an overage. Asslen has been a valuable member of this team for years. Would be sad to see him go.
on another note - this is the quietest i've ever seen this board - has everyone given up?

Heard Asselin went home awaiting a trade. He is not happy with the progress or lack thereof by Edwards in making a trade happen.

If that's the case, then in my opinion that's very immature of Asselin. Maybe I'm just spitballing, but until a trade happens, I don't see what good sense it makes to just leave the team. Edwards is the general manager, not Asselin.

A trade is suppose to have taken place that will be announced shortly.

TV 5 noted Asselin as a healthy scratch during their highlights tonight, and also called it "interesting since he's the 3rd leading scorer in the league." This was posted in tonight's game thread. Was Asselin also a healthy scratch Friday night at Sarnia??

Asselin played Friday in Sarnia and had an assist.

Asselin played Friday in Sarnia and had an assist. Interesting line in the SNews m-live.com article about the Sarnia game Watson hinted personnel changes are in the offing, but wouldn't say what he and General Manager Don Edwards have in mind.

Looking ahead on our schedule, I noticed Peterborough is coming to town on Saturday, November 24. That could be interesting if Asselin gets his wish.
I'll also 2nd that notion that we had better be getting some solid players or picks in return for Asselin.

just FYI for everybody, even thought I do have "insider" information a lot of times, my original post was pure speculation based on Asselin wanting a trade and my assessment that the team needs a legit tough guy (sorry allicock, you're still my favorite player). It's a complete coincidence that stuff with Asselin is happenning around the time of my post...maybe edwards is using my advice on here, hahahahahahaha.
If so, MAKE BEERS $2!!!!!! ;D

Looks like the trade for Asselin is imminent. All I can say is Edwards better be getting something awfully good in return.

It will be interesting to see what they get. I think it will give a clue as to how they feel about the remainder of this year or are really building for next year and the following year.

If I had to guess where Asselin goes it will be Oshawa, or possibly Belleville. I say this because in the article today, his dad says he wants to finish his career close to home and on a winning team. I'm sorry Patrick, but Peterborough isn't that much better than Saginaw is this year, and they're in a weaker conference. The Generals are primed for a deep playoff run and I think they'll load things up for this year. Just my .02
