5th in the Division, 9th in the Conference, we miss the playoffs this year. Goaltending will be our weakness, Serebryakov will be our most inexperienced goalie we've had in the history of the franchise and it will come back to bite us. Unless we trade for someone mid-year or earlier like when we picked up Jeff Weber 10 years ago, we're going to be in trouble this year. Just my opinion, of course I'm hoping for a division and conference title but just being realistic with our young team. Anyone want to jump on my prediction bandwagon after the opening night? Missing Lodge and Moutrey is tough but I'm telling you, we're going to give up 4-5 goals a game and I don't think our younger team can score that much. Don't be surprised if we bring in an OA Goalie in late October and get rid of Cairns.

If we're still doing this 25 games in, it's time to get rid of Paliafito. 17 is the quarter pole, I'd imagine we're going to know who we are even before that and moves will be made one way or the other.

On-ice performance aside, not impressed with changes to the Dow. Don't consider having to stare at the bartenders while watching the ballgames between periods to be an enhancement. Sure the guys tending bar aren't thrilled with it, either

I said even before game 1 that we will HAVE to shop for a goaltender. I stand by that.

I don't why you want the GM out they said it is a rebuild year .... He got Fellhaber to come ... I don't want him out, I think he's doing a pretty good job from an outsider's perspective. I'm saying that if Game 1 (yes, I know, it's only one game) is indicative of how the first quarter of the season goes, if he doesn't address the goaltending situation, he should be out because a lot of the fans will be. People still do read the news whether in print or on the interweb and if they're seeing 7-1, 6-2, 8-3 losses, you're not going to get the walk up fans buying tickets. Of course it's all relative because we don't draw well before Christmas but the perception that we're getting killed every night will be there with the casual fan. Again, it's only one game but that one game sure looked like my prediction was going to come true because my first statement after the prediction was "Goaltending will be our weakness" and it sure looked like it Wednesday night.

I gotcha and agree with your concerns regarding goaltending for sure .... I like the young talent we have.

The Soo is the class of the division this year, no question about that. I say 2-5 is a toss up and should prove to be very competitive. My prediction is the Spirit finish 3rd in the division and 7th in the conference. Plan on spending at least enough extra money to cover three home playoff games and don't be surprised if it works out to 5 home games. This team is better than everybody is giving them credit for. It has been a long time since I've been this excited for a season to start. These guys are going to be fun to watch. Well, this prediction (made on September 18th) looks pretty good now. I'm probably going to miss the mark on the playoffs prediction, but the Soo is the class of the division, 2-5 has been a toss up, and these guys have been fun to watch. Congrats to the boys for making me look good.

Not only are they the youngest team in the league, but they are the youngest team ever to make the OHL Playoffs. The next couple of years are looking very promising.

This has nothing to do with the topic, but I noticed tonight while looking through LHJMQ stats for no good reason, that former Spirit draft pick TJ Melancon plays for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, this is his rookie season. He is a 1996 kid from Ottawa and the Spirit must have cleared him off of their protected list last offseason and no one else in the OHL picked him up.
He is actually much closer to home in the Q (2 hours) than he would be playing for any OHL team other than Ottawa... Kingston is roughly the same distance to Ottawa as Boisbriand.
Anyhoo he has 2 goals and 19 assists in 64 games in the Q this season. His team is leading their division. Pretty good.
Compare and contrast those numbers to how DiTomaso is doing this year (1 goal, 19 assists, 63 games) and perhaps if the team could have managed to woo Melancon to the team instead of cutting him to the Q, we could have got another guy in return for Lodge and Melancon could have filled DiTomaso's role. Not that I don't like DiTomaso, I do. But, in one case you have what we have and in the other case we could have had more without spending any more. Perhaps Melancon didn't want to play hockey 8 and a half hours from home. Perhaps there was nothing the Spirit could do. But sometimes I wonder about stuff like this.
