The playoffs begin again for the Spirit tonight against a very familiar rival of both the regular season and past playoff meetings. The Soo have what could be the deepest and most talented team entering game one with each player having been drafted or will be drafted in the near future. Certainly an uphill climb for us but game aren't played on paper. Erie can tell you that from last night.
GO SPIRIT!!!

For anyone paying attention (Kingpin was), Sarnia beat Erie in game 1 of their series last night. Not saying the Spirit will win but it can happen. A split in the Soo makes this a real interesting series.

In the post-game comments, our Hounds play-by-play announcer was commenting about the Spirit looking tired in the third and that they had just arrived at 5:00.....we actually saw the bus pulling in. I'm just wondering why, especially in the playoffs, they didn't come up yesterday or at least leave much earlier in the day.
Good effort, especially in the first period....but Halverson was on. Cormier didn't let in any soft goals really.

The boys played okay just some positional mistakes by our D lead to grade A opportunities for an extremely talented team and some exceptional goaltending by Halverson when he needed to make key stops. I will echo Malarkey their body language in the third looked like they were beat and they were not pursuing the puck the way they did the first two periods.
Crawford was not good last night, two of the goals were due to poor choices by him that lead to leaving a man open for an easy goal. He took a bad angle in the pursuit of Bailey on the first goal and tried to play the puck instead of taking the body on the Senyshyn goal he also had several costly turnovers on the PP, maybe the added pressure of the playoffs had him off his game. The youth on our D showed itself last night and without an experienced tender to bail them out they lead to goals that sunk the team.
In the goalie battle Evan played well, but Halverson made some saves in the second that he had no business making and with crossbar help in the first he just looked steady and poised.
The forwards played well all in all but the standouts were Kodola, Sadowy, Stephens, Felhaber and Paliani. Just who you would expect to play well most nights. Kodola showed off his hands in tight spaces and again with that Sarnia declared lack of a defensive bone in his body was excellent on the backcheck and the breakouts from the D zone. Sadowy, Stephens, and Paliani were excellent on the forecheck and created some good opportunities with their hard work and good reads on breakout passes by the Hounds. Felhaber what more can you say this kid is everything he was billed as with his hands and his shot, were it not for the exceptional save by Halverson he would have had a beauty of a goal in the second.
Well on to tonight and hopefully a strong effort against an exceptionally talented and deep team.

Getting Paliani for a 12th rounder is probably one of the better trades Saginaw has made in the last few years. He can fit in almost any line combo from 1st to 4th and plays hard. Adapts to what Gilbert is looking for.

I was hoping he'd be like murovich since they're a similar size but he's a LONG way from that... I think he's going to be included in a trade as we upgrade positions in the next couple of years.

He's solid defensively (yes I know what his plus/minus is) and brings the energy. He also isn't afraid to go to the front of the net (all these are ideal qualities for a Gilbert forward) so the points will come in time. Give him the ice time and he will produce. To me he's just as valuable as Barwell or Brown. I could see a 20/20 season from him next year.

I'm just the opposite - I think Brown & Barwell have improved all season, Paliani just seems to be "there". Has a great game or two & then invisible for a few. He's a solid so-so player. Not a huge fan, but not a non-fan either. He's a good roster/depth player.

I agree w SGF. Good depth player/energy liner, but that's all I expect. Nothing wrong with that.
