Well, the recent move today changes a few things in the line up. I will predict the following:
Sadowy – Stephens – Barwell Paliani – Felhaber - Brown Maksimov – Gilmour - Artemov Jackson – M. Webb - Coskey
Petschenig – Middleton Stewart – DiTomasso Crawford – Proner Niemelainene
Cormier Murdaca

If Igor is moving to California then he would want his son to play closer and so the Spirit probably cut him loose as a favor. Igor still has clients all over the place, so we might still see him around from time to time. His son is just coming back from some sort of injury I think and I hope for the best for the kid. Plus his older sister is really hot.
All joking aside, I think Mitchell Webb's odds of making the team just shot up a ton and I think some of his 4th line pals from last year have a slightly better chance now. It all depends on the performance of Blake Clarke as well, whom I consider to be a wild card.

I think the thing to remember is that not everyone who starts the season will end the season with the club. If I was a betting man I would say that Sadowy will be dealt Ala Moutrey at the deadline for a kings ransom. I see a almost trocheck like deal where we get a 16 year old from a contending club and picks and flip those picks back to the team for a solid piece for a run next season. Can also see the team look to trade off s few of the extra players we have (Clarke and Holmes) if we can find a buyer on them to aquire more picks for next year's trade deadline. A good gm (which we are still looking for) will definitely have those future trades in mind while selecting his roster. Unless something big changes, don't expect Sadowy to go anywhere.

With the latest transaction from Barrie, I'd say a small shift is in order and M.Webb is now a spare.
Sadowy – Stephens – Barwell Paliani – Felhaber - Brown Maksimov – Artemov - Kreis Jackson –Gilmour- Coskey
Petschenig – Middleton Stewart – DiTomasso Crawford – Proner Niemelainene

Since I am bored on a Sunday morning I will explain my rationale.
Forwards -- a lot of these guys are gimme picks. I think Bennett makes it because as a hard worker he can be a role model for a lot of the younger guys, and he is one of the best penalty killers we have. I do not think that he scores more than 15 goals in a year (he had 8 last year) but you need guys like him on a team. I do not see a lot of top 6 minutes for him though because of all the talent we have. Mitchell Webb I feel will make the team because he is better than his competition. He plays hard and is one of the best fighters in the league. He should have been given more of a penalty killing role last year along with his brother because I see him in more of a Bennett role than a top 6 guy. As for Jack, he was probably our best faceoff guy last year, but now that we have Gilmour this is probably not the case. Jack should have been developed into a solid defensive forward last year in order to give him more value but I don't see him cracking this deep lineup. McPhail I think shows some real promise based on his numbers before coming to the Spirit and I don't think the team is ready to give up on him unless he comes into camp and lays an egg. Last year, he was one of the most motivated guys in camp so I think he will come in guns blazing and he will make it. Unless Jackson really impresses or one of the guys I've mentioned comes into camp wanting to be traded or doesn't come to camp ready, I don't think he can crack this roster. I would really like more 17 year old forwards on the team but we are adding 3 16 year olds and there are not a lot of spots open for 17 year old rookies who were drafted in 2014. Clarke is the wild card who could make it but I just do not think so based on his injury history. If he comes to camp healthy and super motivated and lighting it up, I actually think he could be traded for a pick or picks instead of winding up on the team. The more likely scenario is that he gets hurt and is on the roster for a few months to start the year in a limbo situation. I wish Kodola was still on the team but they were forced to cut him because of the stupid can't-trade-Import-picks rule.
Defensemen -- The 18 year old group will have to be thinned out. Based on playing time last year, I have Holmes and Henley behind Crawford and Stewart, but there is some maneuvering that can happen here. Someone might want to be traded. Someone might show up to camp and outperform someone else. I think if we trade anyone before the season, it will be one or two guys out of this group of four. Only 2 of them can make the team. Beyond that, I figure everyone else is a lock.
Goalie -- I don't mean to dump on Ovsjannikov because I think he can be good. However, I do not think it is a good idea to have 2 goalies of the same age. The only fact that softens that point a little is that they have Bonnello who is a future #1 when Cormier ages out. Based on that, they could keep Ovsjannikov and not Murdaca and it wouldn't matter. I do think that Murdaca was one of the better goalies in camp last year but he didn't make the team so he could get more minutes for the Niagara Falls Canucks junior team. They signed Murdaca last year for two reasons. They thought Paterson could be on the team all year, and that they were setting up a tandem of Ovsjannikov and Murdaca for this year. That was before they traded for Cormier. The second reason was if Paterson stuck in the minor leagues, they needed a 3rd goalie around if something happened with Serebryakov (and something did) or if Serebryakov was called away to do a Team Russia thing. This year, they signed Bonnello because Cormier could very well get called away to do a Team Canada thing. I see the backup role as a battle between Ovsjannikov and Murdaca and if I had to choose right now I would choose Murdaca. That could still change based on performance in camp.

The Ottawa Senators released Crawford from Training Camp today, so I would assume he will be here for the opener on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Stephens is in the lineup for the Lightning tonight. He started the game and is wearing #67. For some reason, NHL teams love to give Spirit players #67 when they play in exhibition games. Trocheck wore 67 for Florida, so did Moutrey in Columbus, so did Bissonnette in Pittsburgh, so did Cody Payne in Boston (although he wasn't a Spirit player yet). Because I'm bored, I'll list the other strange numbers Spirit players have worn in NHL preseason. Tyler Haskins, NY Islanders, #52 Jesse Graham, NY Islanders, #62 Jan Murzak, Detroit, #61 Brandon Archibald, Columbus, #53 Brandon Saad, Chicago, #43 (so chosen because he was drafted 43rd overall in the NHL Draft) Chris Chappell, NY Rangers, #57 Jake Paterson, Detroit, #36 (Traverse City) Blake Clarke, Detroit, #86 (Traverse City) Garrett Ross, Dallas, #50 (Traverse City) Garrett Ross, Chicago, #61 Cody Payne, Florida, #76 Justin Kea, Buffalo, #42 Dylan Sadowy, San Jose, #59 John McFarland, Florida, #45 Josh Shalla, Nashville, #48 Josh Shalla, St. Louis, #82 (Traverse City) It's sad that I keep track of this. Stephens had 0 points as Tampa lost 3-2 in OT to Nashville. He played 14 minutes with about a minute each on both the PK and PP. www.tbo.com/storyimage/TB/20150922/ARTICLE/150929740/EP/1/2/EP-150929740.jpgwww.tampabay.com/resources/images/dti/rendered/2015/09/0436485858_15960053_8col.jpg2.cdn.nhle.com/lightning/images/upload/2015/09/stephenssite.pngwww.youtube.com/watch?v=M6zCNTeMm4cI thought I read somewhere that Stephens will not be playing in the game tonight at Nashville so maybe they'll send him back in time for the home opener. I don't see Sadowy on the Sharks roster. Is he back yet?
