If Gilbert doesnt get the ax he needs to rip the letters off some guys chests who have been coasting and give them to guys who actually want to play every night. Davies and Hodgson tonight were both solid. Bennett too. They look to be out hustling our captains and its not even close.

I loved the power play line last night of Stephens at center with Davies/Hodgson at wing with Artemov and Crawford at the points. Two big wingers who won a lot of 50/50 pucks and take up space with 3 playmakers around the outside. If Hodgson is back for an overage year next season, that was a GREAT upgrade over Paliani. Last night Hodgson looked really impressive IMO. It also shows how much impact a 19yo can have on a team. Bennett and Clarke are the only other ones and while Clarke hasn't been great this year, everyone's been complementing Bennett all season. I thought Brady Gilmour played his best game of the season last night. He seemed a little more physical/aggressive and it translated into him getting some good opportunities. OK, enough of the good, time for the bad...you can't freaking lose to that garbage Flint team. They are a mess and looked like a mess in the first period but oh wait, THEY WERE UP 3-0!!! It seems like we have at least decent defensemen but jeez o peets, they're spinning around like a top and giving chances to teams like Guelph and Flint that they shouldn't be getting. Cormier made some really good saves to keep the game from getting out of hand too although it seems like the weakness in Cormier's game is going from one position to another...he's a half or quarter step slow in doing that. The good news is that it should be correctable with some good coaching and offseason training. He's looking more and more like the answer in net and I'm excited to watch him play next year with pretty much 2 full seasons as a starter behind him. How about that awful play by Kries leading to the OT goal?!? I normally like Kries, I think he skates hard every shift but he either bit on a fake or pressed the man or something and just got beat when he should have been playing it safe. Especially after killing the power play...man, Bennett should have had a standing ovation for blocking those shots. Gilbert doesn't move from his center bench spot often but when Bennett came to the bench, he was right there patting him on the back. What would one of the tough football players done on the first block? They would have gone down, caused a TV timeout, gone to the sideline for a massage by the trainer and been listed as questionable for the rest of the game. What does hockey do...oh ya, the play keeps going and the warrior blocks another shot seconds later. Oh, did I mention he only had 1 shift off and was right back out on the ice...hockey players don't get enough credit for what they do. Will be interesting to see if Gilbert gets the heave ho soon or at the end of the season. It's now an inevitability that his contract won't be renewed so it's just whether he rides it out or if they make a change. The trouble is we're down to just Kisil so they'd need to have someone else back there with him. Maybe Denny comes out of the broadcast booth to be an assistant for the rest of the season...or maybe he's the coach

I agree about Bennett, true hockey player!! He has impressed me this season. Another player I feel played well was Davies. I wasn't a fan at the beginning, I still think he needs conditioning, but he always manages to find the net or good scoring opportunities. Hodgson had a great game, I hope he continues to get better as he becomes more comfortable. Gilmour did have a good game, it was nice to see him back with Brown, I think the two of them connect well, but it would be nice to see him have power play time.
Now the bad, what is up with Stephens, Felhaber and Artimov? Stephens skates hard, but accomplishes not much, he looks frustrated and not interested in being there. Felhaber should continue to be 4th line as he shows no signs of a top player ( except for that nice pass to Davies), he is really struggling as of late. Artimov has no interest in passing, looking for a pass, he is wearing out the opponents shin pads.
Entire defence......not very good!!
Gilbert......has to go!
And lets keep the same lines for a couple of games so the boys can try and have some chemistry together!!

The three Flint goals last night were all defense. Flint had a guy untouched in front of the goal. Should never happen. Part was because we were without our two top defensemen, but still.
Re: Bennett, I also noticed our captain give him some credit when they went to the bench after those blocked shots. I love that kid, and glad he got a goal last night. It was pretty too.
Hodgson played great. That powerplay where he got the goal was all him. He worked incredibly hard to get that one.
I agree about the lines. LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!!!!
And please, don't make Rosie the coach. I hope that comment was a joke.

My vote for a new coach is the gentleman in upper 13 last night who clearly had to many $2 Bud Lights. He stood most of the 2nd and 3rd yelling at the players to push the puck. OVER AND OVER. Still better than Gilbert.

And please, don't make Rosie the coach. I hope that comment was a joke. It was only partly in jest. If we get rid of Gilbert during the season we're down to only 1 coach left. We're not going to hire anyone full time unless there's this great candidate that got fired from another team out there looking so we'd have Kisil as the interim coach. He'd need someone on the bench with him and since our goalie coach is only part time, the closest person to us with coaching experience is Rosie and he's already at every game anyway. It's not like I think Rosie's going to be our coach but he does have wisdom to pass on (and probably already does from time to time on road trips) and it would be easy to have him standing on the bench helping Kisil out for a couple months. The other choice is Watson who still lives in Saginaw

Still better than Gilbert. My vote for his assistant is for the person that yells "SHOOT IT" when there's a person in between the player and the goal clearly blocking the puck. And then they follow it up with "COME ON" when it inevitably gets blocked.

I am sure Stephens is frustrated. If he was playing with a fast skating team that moves the puck, like Barrie or even the Soo, he would really shine. But on this team, he is playing with a bunch of plumbers.

Would like to see a young up and comer from the lower levels be brought in. Example: Mike Tarantino. 35, currently coaching the Oakville Blades in OJHL. Also coached Toronto Lakeshore Patriots. Always been a 0.600 or above coach.

As long as we are throwing names out there I have a one, see if they can get Shawn Camp to come take the HC job and have Gregg Sutch be one of his assistants. I know Shawn was on the staff when Bob Mancini was the coach but he has had success at both the CHL and CIS level and is familiar with Saginaw and Richard and Craig.

Does anyone stop and consider we traded a 40 goal scorer and received picks back. If you are the coach pretty much tells you what the GM thinks of the teams chances this year. Picks are fine if you use them correctly but if your coaching to win you can not be happy.

Ummm...last I checked, when we had that 40 goal scorer on our team we weren't winning so I don't think that reflects very well on the coach. If the coach was winning and they traded him, your argument might be valid but they weren't.

This is an intriguing idea--I like it. If Sutch is at all interested in coaching, we should be snapping him up, because whatever he does with his life, he's going to be dynamite at it. Not to mention the Saginaw fans absolutely adored him! The only thing is that starting out at the OHL level probably isn't feasible. The guy from Oakville is a very solid suggestion also. Very much in favor of an up and comer type, even though our expected Memorial Cup run next year wouldn't seem to be the right situation...
