One of Bode Wilde's best friends, if you believe Twitter, is Johnny Gruden, his teammate, who is also NTDP, a Knights draft pick, committed to Miami U, and the son of Jon Gruden, former coach of the Firebirds. For what that's worth. Jon Gruden coached Wilde year before last at Honeybaked. Might help recruiting

It's been a while, has anyone heard any new coaching rumors now that the playoffs are over?

According to Joey Battaino and various other sources, Moe Mantha will return to being the head coach of the French River Rapids of the NOJHL. He will not be the head coach of the Spirit next season. I believe he is remaining with the organization as the Northern Ontario scout.

I'm just curious, why do you think that? Think about it. Saginaw is a very stable franchise, Flint is not. Flint is being run by the league and is in danger of losing it's fans. The league had to move fast to stabilize the situation down there. Saginaw on the other hand is in great shape and can afford to take it's time in picking a new coach. I like the fact that they are taking their time on this. No panic, no rush usually equals good decision for the future. No reason to panic.

The league needs to show everyone involved with Flint from the sponsors all the way to the parents of the players how the Flint Firebirds are going to be shaped and move forward from the sideshow of last season. My comment of being surprised that Saginaw has yet to fill their opening is that Spirit front office has been searching for their next head coach since February. With Saginaw being such a stable situation, resumes should be flying into the Spirit office. Guys like John Gruden, Mike Eaves, Dave Bell, and any other quality candidate that has not been mentioned on this message board could have been hired right now. Maybe they can't announce something until after the Memorial Cup is over or somebody is under contract until June 1 and that choice can't be announced. I don't want them to jump the gun on the next coach but I personally would rather see the position filled sooner than later.

Maybe they are having trouble getting someone to take the job.... OK, I'll bite. Please explain why you think that is even a remote possibility.

Not sure why he feels that way but it is not the case. Saginaw has had its pick for a while but likely can't announce it do to thier current status. Don't be surprised to hear an announcement soon.

Interesting news out of Niagara. GM/Head Coach Marty Williamson is not returning to the team next year. Niagara's press release says they are going to honor the last 2 years of his deal. I wonder if Bell is in line to get that job?

Its possible we might be getting Williamson? Williamson was head coach in Barrie for 6 years and took them to the finals before going to Niagara for 6 years and taking them to the finals twice.

Pickings getting slim. I agree, no rush right now, but quality coaches are going to other clubs!
