Surprised they could not get more for Williams considering Brampton just gave Plymouth a 3rd round pick for O/A defenseman Sheply, who has not played this year. Williams played this year like he did not want to be here and looked to be getting worse. If Colorado signs him, I will be shocked. If there was a pro pond hockey league, he would be an all star.
Think it means they won't be signing the goalie, Hoyle they traded for earlier this year.
Taylor is 5'9" along with Murovich and McDonough are really small upfront. I think this bodes well for the mystery tough guy they have.
This team will really struggle to make the playoffs and this trade considering they only get 1 player and lose 2 does not help. But if they are not going to make the playoffs it would be even worse if they don't have draft picks to restock, I think DE is trying to pick up picks they may not have had at the beginning of the season. I think the balance of this year will be about getting the young defense better and draft forwards for the next two years.
Is DE done? I don't know, what else does he have to trade? I don't think he wants to trade picks after working to get them. I think Combs and McDonough would be good O/As, neither have a great pro career waiting for them after this year IMO.

if it were me...i'd trade combs if the right offer came along at the deadline...otherwise, he'll be one of the best OA's in the league.
This is a tough deal to look at in the present because obviously, we lose two drafted players and don't get much back for the current season.
I actually heard about this trade during the game today and I was told that we were getting THE BEST goalie in the '90 class. That is the reason I look to this as a solid trade. If we would have traded Mursak and Williams during the offseason, someone would have "sold the farm" for them. Unfortunately, both of them (Williams especially) have played down their value so to get the top goalie in the 90 class and some picks seems to be about an even trade.
Note to Don Edwards and G&G: You need to get some fighters on this team ASAP!!! Fans need a reason to come to games and unfortunately, fighting does that, just ask Mickey Redmond.

I think this also means that Daniels will be going as well. They could just play Lepera and Pasquale for the balance of the year. If Pasquale is as good as they think he is, play him. Why get him so he could back up Daniels and play every 5th game, it does not make sense.

Prepare to be shocked, IGive1, because someone with the tools Nigel has is going to be signed, no matter what kind of head case he may/may not be............whether he makes it or not is another story.
It's interesting that on the NOOF Williams has been drooled over as trade bait by fans of almost every team on there all season long. Only on the Spirit forum is he considered a total waste.
Considering the price on the Emmerton and Simmonds deals, my feeling is the Spirit did not get enough to make this trade. But that is strictly my opinion.

Excellent deal for Saginaw for the future! Nigel, Parker and Jan in all liklihood won't be in the the OHL next year. Belleville is taking a run at the title this year and paid a price.
Pasquale is a top notch tender who will be a big part of the Spirit's future as they rebuild from last year's run. I'm sure Taylor is someone who can help for the next two years as well and the draft picks are high enough to square it up.
As usual, alarm bells always go off around here when NHL prospects are dealt, but with only a half season left in their careers, Saginaw gains even more for the near-empty cupboard that was left behind at the end of last year.

What a great idea, lets keep trading away players and not getting any players in return. This new thing the Spirit have that they call a general manager is a USELESS waste of space and money in the Spirit organization!!! Good luck Jan, I look foreward to watching you score against us when you return to the Dow

I don't think anyone wasn't aware a trade was coming, team, and I certainly can see the logic in moving these players. But from my checking, Pasquale is the one that made this trade go from the Spirit end. Taylor appears to be a serviceable 3rd liner. As for the picks, the 3rd rounders presently on our roster are Daniels and Brodie. For best odds, let's say we have drafted one 3rd rounder each year, which means the chances are about one in three that a third round pick sticks. And I know that 1) we have several players drafted lower than the third round on the roster and 2) this regime has yet to oversee a draft. (This last could be good or bad--we won't know for at least 2 or 3 years). The trade itself is not a bad thing. But the prices teams are paying for established, good players simply makes me think the Spirit didn't get enough in this deal.

I am going to lock this thread since we already have one going & do not need 2 on the same topic.
