Wasn't able to listen to the game tonight...what went on with the video replays?
But yes...AWESOME win tonight for the Spirit in what in my opinion is probably the most hostile place in the OHL. I think this will once again be a first round playoff matchup.

Wasn't able to listen to the game tonight...what went on with the video replays? But yes...AWESOME win tonight for the Spirit in what in my opinion is probably the most hostile place in the OHL. I think this will once again be a first round playoff matchup. Replay Recap: Jeffery scored a goal with 1:03 left in the second period but the refs missed it. So did the goal judge. You could tell Jeffery knew it was a goal as soon as it happened. The Soo anouncers also called it a goal when it happened but play continues as there was no whistle. The play would get reviewed at the next whistle which happened to come at the end of the period. After review, the goal was allowed and 1:03 was put back on the clock. Kind of sucked the way it came down but it was the right call. I doubt the Spirit will play the Soo in the first round. The Soo will most likely finish 2nd in the conference. I believe Windsor will have a tough time catching them after trading away their starting goalie. That would mean Saginaw will have to remain in the 7 slot for that match up to occur. I think the Spirit will move up. 6th for sure and perhaps 5th. If they continue to improve they have a realistic shot at 4th and home ice in the first round. Perhaps that's a little too optomistic, but what the heck, at least the Kool-Aid taste good right! Peace.

Just back from the Soo (2:15pm).
What a game!!! 2nd period was one of the wildest periods of hockey we've seen in a long, long time. Looked like open season on goalies - there were numerous collisions at both ends that resulted in dislodging the nets. I would *not* have wanted to be on the ice during this period. Many of you folks have complained about Fic's rather laid back style of play-by-play announcing. Don't know how he could possibly have called the 2nd period in his normal manner.
Anyhow, first the reviewed goal. It was a definitely a goal. We had an excellent view of the play and the puck crossed the goal line behind Ryan. A Spirit defenseman (I think TJ) swept the puck back out almost immediately. The officials handled it correctly. The video replay tape is synchronized with the time clock. At the first stoppage of play (which was the end of the period), the goal was reviewed and allowed. Then, one minute, three seconds was put back on the clock and the period finished.
As for the play where Jay received a checking from behind penalty (5 minute major, in this case) and an automatic game misconduct, he and Quesnele (BTW, a very good friend of Zack Torquato) were coming full bore down the right side. I missed the actual infraction (happened right in front of us, though), but Quesnele crashed full speed, head first into the end boards. It was ugly. After several minutes, he got up and. more-or-less, skated to the bench with some help. He didn't return to the game. Zack's grandfather was sitting near us and said Jay did cause Quesnele to lose his footing (proper term to use when someone is skating?). Jay also crashed into the boards, but was unhurt.
Spirit once again showed their ability to come back against a very good team. Soo had lost 1-0 at home to Niagara the night before. Hartsburg was very upset with the Hounds effort in that game and made them practice after the game and the following morning.
Josh Godfrey has an absolute cannon of a shot. He scored once last night, but many times his shots were off the mark. Very uncharacteristic of him.

Soo forum stats guy confirms this. Godfrey had one shot actually on goal. He made that one count, obviously, but missed with all the others. Let's hope THAT is the beginning of a trend when we play the Soo!!!! In a related topic, Soo fans are calling for a 10 game suspension for Jason McD for his hit on Quesnele. Does that sound about right or no, johnt? (or anyone else)

That's less than I expected from everything I've been reading.
Wow. Twenty games for Penner. That's the biggest one I've seen.
