Can Jack Combs be drafted by an NHL team this year, or are they only eligilbe when they are 18?

I believe you can be drafted at anytime but it is rare. I think the more common route is to be invited by an NHL team as a free-agent tryout and then you'd get assigned to one of the minor-league affiliates if you made it.
someone correct me if i'm wrong

I can't believe there are no comments on Watson's appointment to the team!
Here is a guy who the "experts" around here annointed as "inexperienced" and "not a big name" yet he takes one of the youngest clubs in the league and has them 4-games over 500 at January 15th.
Just imagine what he could do if he had a team of 19 and 20 year olds.
Congrats Mr. Watson for continuing to prove that you don't have to be a former NHLer to be effective in this league behind the bench!
Your league peers are certainly noticing your work!

Todd was the assistant to last years team and it's impressive that Mike Velucci brought him along even though he's not with the Whalers anymore. to agree with your post, however, i think todd's style of hard-working, never give up attitude is being noticed by both other teams and by the standings.

While I am happy w/Combs & Watson, what about Ryan McDonough?? Sure, you can make a point that "who do you cut from the list of selected players & insert McDonough in place of", & that is a valid point, but if you are going on stats alone, why not McDonough (27g, 26a, 53 pts. on an "average" team, where he is one of a handful doing the bulk of the work, so-to-speak) over one of the 5 Kitchener players like Halischuk (12g, 38 a, 50 pts with a stellar team) or Spaling (who has similar numbers at 28g, 21a, 49pts - again, on that great team). Just a thought.
Not that it matters, but here's how many players were chosen from each West team: KIT - 5 SSM - 3 PLY - 3 SAR - 2 GUE - 2 SAG - 1 OS - 1 ERI - 1 LON - 1 WIN - 1

Nevermind... I forgot about the dumbest rule in this league: Any player who was on Team Canada for the World Jr's gets an automatic spot on the All Star team. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Kitchener's 5th player was Steve Mason, who has barely played for them yet, so I guess you could count him for London.........Ryan McD has definitely been an All Star in my book this year.

Halischuk for Kitchener was an automatic because of this along with Mason. Halischuk has played fewer games than McD but his points per game are similar. The guy you could argue maybe should not be going for Kitchener is Spaling. Remember last year that O'Marra was on the team because of being on team Canada. His performance up to that point with Saginaw probably did not warrant him being on the team.

I agree that McDonough is all-star quality and if this was last year (and we were hosting), he'd probably get the nod. Unfortunately, like others have said, the Canadian World Jr. team gets that "automatic" spot which is fine because this is a Canadian league so it doesn't ruffle my feathers too much.
The people that really have a reason to complain (and they are on the NOOB) is the Windsor fans...they're 3rd in the conference and only got 1 player in while omitting Bailey(For.) and Ellis(Def.)...at least one of them should have been in but again, if you add one, you have to take away one.

I sort of disagree with this... and I know I will catch heat from people on this, but yes, this STARTED as a Canadian league, and is 85% Canadian based teams, but it is not ONLY a Canadian league anymore, with 3 American teams in the league now. I don't know, I don't like the rule, that's all. I would feel the same way if all the American players who played on the World Jr. team were automatically added to the All Star game as well. It's not an anti-Canadian thing - it's an anti-rule thing.

I was thinking that the US players were automatics as well but only 2 of 3 are on the All Star lists
Smith--Plymouth Sanguenetti--Brampton
Montgomery was not included
I think that they should be automatic selections as well.
