It sounded like Pasquale played a great game in net tonight (except for the fluke goal, which happens to EVERY goalie at some point in their career). It just sounded like the OS goalie stood on his head. Take away the fluke goal & the empty netter & it's 2-2. You still have to be able to put the puck in the net to win. Desrosiers said it best - we do not have the scoring depth on this team yet. It will come.

I have no issue with starting Pasquale tonight. Daniels needs a rest...just played 2 road games and will likely play in the next 2 road games Friday and Saturday. Might not have made much difference tonight anyways...sounds like the OS goalie had a remarkable game. We got Sudbury on Friday...worst team in a weaker (IMO) Eastern Conference, and Barrie on Saturday...who aren't as good as they have been in previous seasons. We have 2 very winnable games coming up and we'll have Daniels rested.

how did sinfield look tonight at his first game back? I was just about to say 'dang, about time Combs didn't get at least one point in a game' and then noticed he wasn't in the line up LOL! He's just THAT good, I guess.

Sinfield played well but a little rusty but you can't expect to be on top of your game after not playing in what 8 weeks. He was paired with Breen. Oglive was moved up to play the wing.

couple things...first, i'm dissapointed that I was (-2) last night...some respect eh
but seriously though, i wanted to offer a couple things since I actually found enough change under the couch to watch the game online:
1) Yes this was an important game because we're slightly ahead of OS in the standings (we're now 1-2 on the season with 1 remaining). However, OS has played 3 more games than us so if we win our next two games (with Daniels), we are still in a really strong position to not only make the playoffs but advance in the standings
2) I agree with many of you and Rosie that we do not have enough scoring punch...hopefully McD and Combs will be back next year or we may be in the same boat. Zaborsky had chances last night but the positioning of the OS goalie was solid all night so he didn't have much to shoot at.
3) It was not Pasquale's fault on the 3rd goal...a dump in is designed to go around the net to a teammate heading down the opposite side, it's the goalie's job to slow up (or stop) the puck so a defensemen can attempt to clear the zone. I'm sure our GM has had a couple of those go in on him as well over the course of his career. If we're up 3-1 at that point and it goes in and we win 3-2, it's no big deal...so why is it a big deal even though it was the "game winner". It's a fluke either way, it just happened to cost us the game, which sucks.
4) I agree that Sinfield played with some rust but I think that he and Breen will perhaps be the tallest defensive pairing in the league. If they are able to play at a high level and be out there with a combination of combs/McD/Z, that should create some space out there with the threat of both of the Dmen stepping up to fight which they've both done throughout their careers.
5) Thanks again for the smite points...jerks, hahaha ;D

Not looking too place blame, but with all the talk of goalies playing the puck reminds me of a saying from a former NHL goalie turned analyst Darren Pang(I think) who said his coach told him IF ITS ON THE GLASS DONT MOVE YOUR REAR (supposed to ryhme) NHL rinks are a little different now in that you have seemless glass so there is less risk of a bad bounce although they still happen. As for some comments about the D this group Isn't bad at all. The 4 17 yr olds will only get better and will likely be the strength of the Spirit for the next two years if they progress as expected and stay together. Back too bad bounces the Dow might be the worst rink for that with the puck taking weird bounces off the glass, the two doors where the teams come out as well as the Zamboni door with the bad ice. Hopefully the team is ready for the next two games and not taking their opponents too lightly as that would be a big mistake.

That's actually a good quote but it probably refers to the time before the seamless glass (like you said) and the quote is probably what lead to the increased scoring in the past since goalies kept their arse in the net and the dump in was more successful for the offensive team. It would be interesting to talk to Don Edwards to find out how he was taught back in the day, and if it's the same or different now.

It could still apply to the OHL since most rinks dont have seamless glass, outside of the newer rinks. The Dow is like the older style NHL rinks . The bounces aren't as true, so to me it would be more of a risk to come out and play the puck on the glass than say at Londons rink or at an NHL rink.
