The East wins this year's game 8-7 in a shootout. Judging from the box score it sounded a lot more exciting than last year's snoozefest in Saginaw (or at least I thought it kinda was).
The East led 3-0 after 1 period of play, then the West tied it 3-3 midway through the 2nd period. The East then scored late in the 2nd and early in the 3rd to take a 5-3 lead, before the West tied it 5-5 just a few minutes later. The East took a 6-5 lead midway through the 3rd, but the West quickly tied it and took a 7-6 lead with about 3 minutes left. Brett MacLean of Oshawa tied it for the East at 7-7 with just 33 seconds left in the period, before MacLean scored the only goal in the shootout to give the East an 8-7 victory.
Saginaw's Jack Combs had 1 assist in the game, which was the 6-6 tying goal with about 5 minutes left. Stamkos of the Sarnia Sting scored the goal.
There were actually some penalties in the game...the East was 0/3 on the powerplay while the West was 1/1. Probably because Shaun Davis was reffing. The East outshot the West 51-38.
Windsor will host the 2009 OHL All Star Game, I believe in their new arena which opens in the middle of next season. That's 3 straight years that teams in the same division will host the all star game.

JAKE (see NOOF thread), I mean Jack Combs was the 2nd shooter for the West in the shootout but did not score. Stamkos (1st shooter) and Terry (last shooter) also did not score for the West. Tavares was 1st shooter for the East and did not score with MacLean getting the game winner as the 2nd shooter. On Line Scoresheet: www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=15139

I watched the game last night and Jack was the last shooter for the West not the second. He tried his patented dekes but the puck dribbled off the end of his stick and did not get a shot off.
Actually the West did not get a shot on net in the shootout. Stamkos went first and lost control of the puck--no shot. Terry went second and he also lost control of the puck---no shot.
It was a pretty entertaining game for an AllStar game, but like all others had very little if any body contact.
I thought that Jack scored the goal that was given to Stamkos but in the end they gave it to Stamkos.
