I know, the past week has gotten my hopes up for a good run up to playoff time. Go Spirit!

Windsor plays tomorrow so it'll be their second game. I guess I should have been more clear. I meant if could be their first game where there is a ceremonial puck drop and the captains are asked to report to center ice. In respect to Windsor who will not have a captain, I am suggesting that instead of asking the "captains' to report to center ice, they ask the "alternate" captains to report.

This was one of the things I was talking about in the NOOF discussion for the Oshawa game, and I got ripped apart for it. I'm a big Combs fan, and sure he's got the numbers, but he hasn't been playing up to expectations this year. He also has not impressed me very much. You can look at stats all you want, I'll continue to look at what I see on the ice. This fits into what I see on the ice. Regardless of stats, and IMHO.....I actually am one of the folks that thinks Combs hurts the team almost as much as he helps. His staying out on the ice for sometimes literally 2+ minutes (on occasion) and regularly 2 full minutes on the pp is harmful to the team. It makes him less effective, makes the others on the ice less effective since they need to cover for his lack of energy at the end of his LONG shifts, and shows lack of respect for his teammates in his selfishness. Now, that doesn't mean he doesn't have numbers to support a very good season but, last season I saw Pyatt et al drawing penalties, getting off he ice after normal shifts and going on the PP for 1 minute to 1:20 then off. Contrast that to this season I see the Murovich/Zaborsky/Plakaitas line drawing penalties where Combs proportionately doesn't. Add to that Combs benefits from the pp drawn by the energy guys then he stays out till he is spent. In other words I tend to think his stats are bloated to the positive based on too much pp time and the non-stats aren't there as they have been with other "stars" of past seasons. I don't know this for a fact but it sure seems like this teams pp has given up more short-handed goals then any other comparable squad. I think this is the result of the number one pp unit's selfishness which is lead by Combs.

Our team's power play has not been very good this season at all. We seem to play much better 5 on 5.
The line of Mirovich, Zaborsky and Pleckaitus is an AWESOME line. They've been playing really well, and adding Zaborsky to that line has really helped him this season.

No question that Zaborsky's best play has come since he was moved to this line.

Our team's power play has not been very good this season at all. We seem to play much better 5 on 5. Wasn't our power play the number 1 or at least in the top 5 for the better half of the season? I believe it wasn't until the last 5-6 weeks that it went in the tank. Currently we are 8th out of 20, I'd say that's not bad. The PK is what kills us, 17th out of 20.
