Hate to say this but it might be time to cash in the OHL education package.

Hate to say this but it might be time to cash in the OHL education package. So give up on the dream after two years? He's being sent down to get more ice time and he's still getting paid to play hockey. Disappointing? Sure, but you don't give up because of one disappointment. I'm thinking of "Rudy" here. Someone who gives up early never gets anywhere in life. It's those who tough it out thru the hard times that have the most success. If he no longer has the drive to play at a high level, then sure, it's time to move one. That's for him to decide, not any of us. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe Dylan still has an OHL Educational Package available to him. Having signed a pro contract and being more than two years since he left the OHL, I believe he is on his own as far as college goes.

Hate to say this but it might be time to cash in the OHL education package. If someone was paying me $70,000 a year to play hockey, with summers off besides working out, and with a $92,500 contractual signing bonus each year for this year and next guaranteed I'd give that up to to go to Canadian University too.... Not. Milk that as long as you can. Even after an NHL deal is done, ECHL contracts are still better money than most people his age would be making along with the perks that come along with it. College or not.

Former captain Chris Chappell graduated from the Spirit in 2009 as an OA and then signed in July 2009 to an ELC with the New York Rangers. He then played in the Rangers minor league system in 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2011-12. When he wasn't resigned he decided to go to the University of Waterloo where he played for 3 years. Can someone in the know detail the circumstances of that? Do OHL players have a longer period of time before they can choose to drop professional hockey to play at a Canadian University? Did Chappell go to Waterloo on his own dime, on the Spirit education package, or did he get a scholarship from Waterloo independent of the Spirit college fund?
As an aside if I can ever track down Chappell's Connecticut Whale jersey I am going to buy it.
