What did you guys think of the Pleckaitus roughing penalty, when Williams blatantly interfered with him, and they called the penalty on us instead? I thought that was one of the most ridiculous calls I've ever seen. But there weren't a lot of penalties tonight, so I shouldn't complain.
Yeah, it's been COLD in there the last two games. I think I'd rather have bad ice. haha.

That penalty was pure crap. From the sound of the boo's everybody in the place new it too. Of course, the guys that sit across from the zamboni entrance from us let the refs know about it too. :-)

Thanks for that tip, donzz!! I can handle dressing warmer if it improves the ice. This was possibly the Spirit's best all around game of the season. Every single player contributed and worked his butt off. The much-maligned PK looked great, especially on the critical penalty on Jarram midway through the third. Still an ohfer on the PP, but that was the only thing wrong. It looks like the light has gone on for Joe Plekaitas. Wow, has he looked good the last three games. I've seen speed I had NO idea he had. He had the check of the game tonight (on Nigel Williams) and put Nigel down with another hit earlier in the game. With a G and A tonight, very deservedly the first star, although I cannot overemphasize what a teamwide effort this was. Brad Smith and his line gave an absolute clinic in puck handling and cycling late in the third period in Belleville's zone. Smith especially was a force in hanging on to the puck. He does a lot of things like this well, and doesn't get a whole lot of recognition. How in the world did this guy waive out of the Q?? (Oh. It's the Q.........he's not a big scorer or a goalie.....) Daniels--very solid tonight, and he'd better be, because he could be playing all 3 games this weekend......(get a good night's sleep tonight Ryan, and glad to hear your second favorite sport is baseball!!!! Even if you are probably a Jays' fan.) I want to go on record here--since it will probably never happen again--and say Sean Reid called a good game. OK, he blew that call that should have been on Williams, or at least matching minors, late in the second. But he stepped back and let the teams play, and they both did so with no stupid stuff. Hockey as it was meant to be watched. Finally, after the discussion on shift lengths the other night, I did some stat-keeping. (Although I quit in the third period so I could concentrate on the game !!!) Combs had one over the top shift of 2:45 (approx--could be a few seconds off) but other than that he wasn't bad--longest was about 1:40. McDonough was usually off the ice before Combs, so he had even less time. One thing that certainly impacted EVERYONE'S PT tonight was the lack of special teams play. It was the first time in awhile that I've seen 4 lines get significant ice time, and the result was certainly good. It looked to me like the lines were getting mixed up more as the game went on, also, which is interesting, since they haven't been changed for awhile. So take it for what it's worth. Anyone who thought Windsor's gutsy effort last night might be all they had in the tank should check the OHL scoreboard, which shows the Spits shut out the Soo tonight, at the Soo. We had better be ready tomorrow, because without a doubt, they are a team on a mission. At present ONE point separates the 5 through 8 playoff seeds. We control our own destiny to a great extent--there can be no bad games from here on out.

Yes, crowd was a little small tonight. I'm guessing that high school basketball was part of the reason (lots of area teams playing for district championships tonight, including Saginaw High, Saginaw Heritage, Bay City Central, Frankenmuth, Freeland, and Saginaw Nouvel). Tomorrow's game is close to a sellout from what I hear.
I know that Nigel Williams fell out of favor with some of the Spirit fans, but one thing I noticed before the game (actually before people were even let into the arena) was that both teams were hanging out in the stands talking and having a good time. Williams and Mursak were getting a lot of love from current Spirit players, as were Taylor and Tront from the Bulls players. Lots of class by both teams I thought...no fiascos here tonight. Corrente and Fletcher should take a lesson or two on this.
I haven't been to the Dow much this year, but yeah...it was FREEZING in there tonight.
The Bulls fans were great. Very nice people who really love our arena. That Elvis guy was a riot.
Anyways...great win tonight and tomorrow's game should be a exciting contest as well.

I think the bball games had a lot to do with it. Even the great DonJohnson was really really close to skipping for the NCC-Reese game. They didn't need me though and NCC came through with the big upset!!!!! Also, AJ, if you think last night was cold, you should have been there Wednesday...i wore my gloves the entire game and the tip of my nose was an ice cube!

Not trying to pick a fight, but just curious....how can you comment on how the team or individual players perform if you don't attend the games?

This is exactly why I nominated Brad Smith as Saginaw's "Unsung Hero" awhile back on the NOOF. His play on the penalty kill alone is worth the price of admission. Peace.

I've been talking up Plackaitus all season, glad to see people are seeing what I saw. I still say, the most productive line on the ice right now, in terms of play rather than points, is the Murovich, Zaborsky, Pleckaitus line.
Anyone notice the second goal was almost the EXACT same play as the first goal? With a different line. Might they have been working on that one in practice?

I do not normally comment on player performances, because as you said, I don't always get to see them play. But as far as the team as a whole, there's a little thing called radio, and every once in a while, internet livestream that I use to follow to the team and give me a good idea of what's going on. Normally when I make a comment about a game, I'll usually use the term "it sounded like..." followed by whatever happened. Unfortunately, I cannot make it to all the games like I used to, since I'm going to school in Mt. Pleasant and simply can't afford the gas to make it to the games on a consistent basis. Are you going to ask this question to SSF as well?
