I'm starting a petition to retire Vaclav Meidl's number Lord - if we are going there (and I think we should, why would anybody want to wear that number again), I think we have to retire Taylor Raska's number too! lol

If we do Razska's, I think we should put it on the ice rather that in the rafters since all he ever did was fall and/or get knocked down

Bringing a thread back from the dead because I don't remember seeing it discussed on here. If you look at the Saginaw Spirit's promotional schedule, they have Wednesday, Feb. 1 scheduled as "Trocheck Jersey Retirement." So it appears that is our answer as to the first Spirit number retired.
Surprised they aren't retiring Saad's, but maybe that will come at another time when they can schedule him being here? I mean, I guess Trocheck has probably had more impact in the NHL than Saad, despite Saad's hardware — he didn't play as large of a role in those cup wins as Trocheck has played for his team.
What do you guys think? Good choice for the first retirement in Saginaw?

Also I think I mentioned it earlier in the thread but what guys have done after they leave Saginaw shouldn't be taken into account when deciding if their number in Saginaw should be retired. Should be about their OHL career only. With that being said, their any many players that would have the resume as Trocheck had for the Spirit. I will say it would have been cool if they did him And Saad on the same night to honor both PA guys.

Great choice... Best faceoff guy we've ever had and great career in Saginaw... Just a shame that his rental half season was in Plymouth.

Vince would absolutely be my pick for the first Spirit jersey retired. In my opinion, he's the best to ever wear a Spirit jersey. And for those of you thinking the Plymouth trade should negate that: 1) Very few OHL players play their entire career with one club, and 2) Most of you upset with the Plymouth trade are pushing Saad. Trocheck played here a season and a half longer than Saad did. I would slso support Trocheck being the first even if he hadnt become a star in the NHL, bevause I think performance in Saginaw should be the #1 criteria.

So exactly where has this jersey number retirement been announced by the Spirit? I just looked at my pocket schedule and it is nowhere to be found. Where is the promotional schedule you referenced eric8199?

Spirit Web Page: saginawspirit.com/promotional-scheduleThis was not part of the original Promotional Schedule so it wasn't on the pocket schedules or ticket books. I looked up Florida's schedule and this date fits into a 4 day break for the Panthers. I'm sure it was added based on Vinnie's availability.

OK! Now that it's settled, why no promotion at this point?

OK! Now that it's settled, why no promotion at this point? I know a lot of the promotional stuff has been really up in the air this year, hence the lack of advanced promotion of things.

FWIW I have heard the Spirit are planning on retiring Sadd's number as well, but haven't been able to fit it into his schedule.
Personally I would have went with Sadd first. I do think Tro was a little better, but Sadd's got the Cups and he's the one you still see on the billboards around the region.

It's tough to get an NHL guy here, especially someone to the level of Saad and Trocheck. The schedules don't always line up. I believe as soon as they do, we'll be retiring Saad's jersey too.
