Fun fact -- Trocheck has one Spirit teammate still on the current team -- Kris Bennett. Although, they never played together because it was Bennett who was called up as a 16 year old at World Junior time to fill the spot vacated by Trocheck leaving to play for Team USA.

Also...I'm not sure if the team is planning for him to do this, but the last time we saw Vince at center ice it was in a suit. Someone tell him to get the gear on and skate out in a Spirit jersey one more time like Bob Gainey did when the Canadiens retired his number.

Fun Fact- Vincent Trocheck holds the Saginaw Spirit single game scoring record with a goal and 5 assists scored on March 4, 2012 in a 7-1 road victory against the Windsor Spitfires.
Up until this previous Sunday, Trocheck held the Saginaw Spirit record for most assists in a single game with his 5 assists. That record was tied by Marcus Crawford in Sunday's 6-5 road loss to the Sarnia Sting.
Again, these are Saginaw Spirit records not the franchise records when the team played in North Bay, Niagara Falls, or St. Catharines.

Someone made a comment to me Saturday night looking up at Trocheck's jersey that "we only have one jersey retired?"
With all of the Memorial Cup hullaballoo I think it would be awesome to get another jersey up in the rafters this season. I think if you're looking to retire a jersey you're looking at 2 names...Saad and Perfetti. I'd probably say Saad first but if Perfetti hadn't lost his season(s) to covid, I think he would have set records and just getting him to report to Saginaw was a win in itself. The other ones I'd consider are Shalla and Mintuykov...the tough part of Pavel is that he lost season(s) to covid and we had to trade him away. I still think he's one of the top 3 greatest players to play here even with his short time in a Saginaw sweater.

Saad's should definitely be retired. I'm not sure if the timing has never worked or maybe he wasn't interested in doing it, but his should be up there IMO.
Off-topic here, but I also wonder why they removed the Saginaw Gears championship banner. I think it's a really nice touch when current teams honor the city's hockey history.

It's possible the Gears banner just hasn't gone back up yet. You'll notice they hung the championship banners and the Trocheck one, then moved them, so that might not all be final yet, especially with the ribbons going in as we speak. As for Saad, did he do enough as a Spirit player to have his jersey retired? It's not about what they've done after they left, it's about what they did when they were here, right? We all knew Saad would make the show, but I believe he was injured for a lot of his time here and while he wasn't a slouch by any means, he didn't perform to his healthy potential either. Personally I think Shalla is the most logical choice, though wouldn't have the name recognition that Saad or Perfetti would have. I wouldn't mind seeing Chris Thorburn either, being the first captain and his ties to the area now. I also really like there being a very select few retired numbers in our building too. Makes it that much more special when you do retire one.

The Gears banners came up missing a few years ago, and it doesn't seem like anyone wants to take credit for removing them or where they're currently located. I've asked a few people with Spirit and they have no idea where it went, which means the arena removed them and probably put them in a storage room that is now forgotten. Just another issue with arena mangement.

Don't get me started on arena management.
