Sometimes it's better to be free agent than to get drafted. When the Red Wings hold their Rookie Tournament later this summer, look for more non-drafted players to get invites by all of the teams there. This happens every year especially since the NHL draft was reduced to only 7 rounds. Blake just needs to keep believing in himself. There is not doubt in my mind that he will play in the NHL someday.

Interesting in the clip to hear him say he's been invited to the Prospects Tourney in September and also main training camp. He must have impressed the Wings. Good for him. Hopefully that translates into a great season for him. The Spirit are going to need it.

Anyone else notice that Zach Bratina wasn't drafted either?

I saw that Brandon Prophet was invited to Buffalo's development camp. Noticeable by his absence from the Sabres' camp was Eric Locke.

“@andystrickland: Saginaw forward Blake Clarke impressed enough in #Redwings prospect camp to earn a spot on the Traverse City roster. #OHL”
Hopefully he keeps this up into this season.

I don't know the exact details of the NHL CBA, but it is essentially thus:
NHL teams (any of them, not just Detroit) can sign Clarke, but they have to do it by a certain date. That date is coming up soon. If he signs, then that team holds his rights for the length of the deal (usually entry contracts are 3 years).
If he doesn't sign by that date, then his rights go back into the NHL draft and Clarke will have to wait until next summer to find out if a team drafts him (then that team will have exclusive rights to him for two years) or if he goes undrafted again, in which case the same thing that happened this summer happens again.
Sgarbossa went undrafted, then the following summer he was signed by SJ. Shalla went undrafted, then unsigned, then went back into the draft and was drafted and then signed with NSH. Chappell went undrafted twice, then signed with NYR.
So there is a lot of routes that a player like Clarke can take.
