Game has not started due to crappy ice. What a surprise!! According to Fic they have resurfaced 4 times. The nets are being set in place at 8:05 pm.

The nets have just been taken off the ice and the Zambonis are back out for a 5th time. Time is now 8:25 pm. Not looking good.

Joe FM has resumed regular programming for now. The on air DJ just said they would go back to Fic as soon as there is any news so for now they apparently have not officially postponed the game as of 8:45 pm.

Fic just announced that game 2 has officially been postponed. The time is 8:50 pm. Game 2 will be Monday night at the Soo. Here is the revised series schedule:
Game 2 Monday 3/24 at the Soo Game 3 Wednesday 3/26 at Saginaw Game 4 Thursday 3/27 at Saginaw * Game 5 Saturday 3/29 at the Soo * Game 6 Monday 3/31 at Saginaw * Game 7 Tuesday 4/1 at the Soo * If necessary
So this has now turned into the 2-2-1-1-1 format that was used last season.

What a disaster. I don't blame the arena football team because their schedule was set beofre the playoff schedule for the Spirit. The Spirit organization or the OHL heads should have realized the football game at the Dow and either gone with the 2-2-1-1-1 format or scheduled the playoff game for Sunday. This is unfortunate and does not look good.

The Spirit organization or the OHL heads should have realized the football game at the Dow and either gone with the 2-2-1-1-1 format or scheduled the playoff game for Sunday. This is unfortunate and does not look good. Fic was saying on the radio that they don't think the football game was the primary reason for the poor ice. Disney on Ice was in during the week and apparently they build up the thickness of the ice for these figure skating shows. He also commented about some logos/decals that were put in as part of the Disney on Ice shows and that those were the areas on the ice that they were having the most problems with. If this is true, they should have had crews in shaving the ice back down with the Zambonis as soon as that show left. Does anyone know when the Disney on Ice show was finished?? If the last show was on Thursday that means they most likely just set up for the football game rather than do any work on the ice to get it back into hockey playing condition. No matter what the circumstances, it's a black eye and an embarrassment for the Spirit.

Bring back Zane Collings to run this arena.
I like everyone else, was very leery of the first game after the first football game and Voila!
I heard when the boards were put down over the ice for the football game, the ice became too brittle because it got too cold. The players during the game day skate said it was brittle and heard it cracking when skated on it. But during warm up, it looked "OK". I'm certain that previous teams playing in the building in other leagues would have at least given it a try, however this league with a bunch of potential millionaires on the ice and injury could cause a bunch of lawsuits.
I guess this means no 3rd consecutive OHL Executive of the Year for Goslin. He looked to be handling well, I would be going nuts at the building management.
Really feel bad for the Soo fans. They were in the crowded lobby standing in line for refunds. They would be getting home extra late and seeing no game to boot.

What a disaster. No matter what the circumstances, it's a black eye and an embarrassment for the Spirit. It sure is! You would have thought they would have worked on that ice all day. Not just at 6pm the day of a playoff game. There was no question the ice was crap. At our end you could see a gouge in the ice. I sure wish I knew what they were thinking.

Incredibly - this doesn't susprise me. The DOW ice conditions are easily the worst in the OHL and the fact the week consisted of the first Arena Football game and Disney on ICE - well that is probably too much for the incompetents at the DOW to handle.
Rumour is that the city - in order to save money - has a short under trained staff on the equipment there.
Worse still is the added travel and compressed schedule on the tail end of this series. It will have an impact for sure...draining.
This has to be a major embarrassment for the Spirit management.

The ice making equipment is 30+ years old, it has been bandaged up too many times it needs to be replacedThe County owns the arena and a private management company runs it, including setting the budgets. Don't blame the City, they screwed it up enough when they owned itThey do need better ice management personnel. Those Zamboni drivers stink.
