I would just like to say from all of us in Sault Ste.Marie to all of you Spirit Fans, Thank you for being such a respectful group. You guys sure do love your hockey in that town , and I noticed there was a lot of Spirit Fans at the Steel back Center in Game 1. There was this one lady in particular that was so kind that when I bumped into her at the concession stand I bought her a popcorn. I see why now how we do get along as fans, we are so alike. Last year we had a lot of problems with a bit of rude London Knights Fans during the playoffs. It wasn't pretty, and that will result in a mean spirited rivalry. With you guys playing us its always nice to hear from some intelligent, respectful fans, especially on this forum and on the Soo Greyhounds forum, in particular SpiritFan8. Thank you guys for being so respectful and good luck throughout the playoffs, God Bless. PS: If anyone would like to check out or register for the Hounds forum, the website is www.soogreyhounds.net It's always hearing from the other teams' fans.

Thanks for your kind words, ssmgf. Soo fans are among my favorites, and they proved it again tonight, when the ones in Section 11 did not throw anything at me when I went up to chat. A few catcalls, but nothing very bad at all. Many of them pointed out they were "well-lubed" from the bus trip down, and were "upset, but not mad". (their words!)

I think what happened on Saturday night was a joke. There's no other way to look at it. I cannot imagine being a Soo fan and have made the trip and not see a game. The thing is, they knew there were ice problems before any of us even got there. You could tell just looking at it. They should have called the game at 4pm, rather than wait until they sold enough precious concessions to make it worth them opening the doors before they called it.
I considered getting a refund on my tickets, but its not fair to the Spirit players for me not to continue to support them. THEY didn't cause the ice problems.
As someone else said, this is not the Dow's fault, we should not have scheduled a game immediately after the arena football. Even Stevie Wonder would have seen there was going to be a problem. Serves them right now that they don't have a weekend game in the series.
Absolutely pathetic. It should never have happened, had we agreed to a 2-2-1-1-1 like we should have in the beginning.
Glad I had a day to cool down before I could post on here. haha.
To be honest, to those Soo fans, a refund isn't enough.

Hate to disagree with you there Eric, but this is 100% SMG's fault. The Spirit cannot schedule games as they please. If the folks at SMG knew they would not have the ice ready they would never have allowed the game to be schedule for Saturday night. Both the Disney show and the Football game were scheduled before the Spirit game. I am sure the Spirit would have put as much pressure on them as they could to get the Saturday night game, but in the end, it's the folks who run the arena who should have the final say. I am sure the Spirit asked "will the ice be ready for a Saturday night game?", if they were told it would be, and I am guessing they were told that, then it should have been ready. No excuses. Bottom line here is SMG messed up and they should be held accountable for the majority of the losses. If the ice making equipment is bad, then it's up to SMG to put it in the budget to have it replaced. The bottom line here is it does not look like SMG has the people in place who understand how to make good ice. It's just that simple and it's not exceptable. Period, end of conversation.

I just read over at the NOOF on this as well, and it looks as if the Soo fans on the bus were refunded for their bus trip and provided pizza on the way home too, so that's good.
I guess I shouldn't have posted yet, and instead should have asked here, "who is to blame?" sounds like I've got my answer.
If nothing else it's time for them to replace the coolers in the Dow...let's get a better ice system if we want to keep this team.
We're lucky we did not have to forfeit this game. We honestly should have had to. They've put so much money in this building to improve it, the least they can do is fix the ice problem.
Good job Spirit, for providing for the Soo fans who wasted an entire day on this. Everyone in attendance should have been given a voucher for another game though. That would have been a nice move

I'll go one step father and say that do not have the right people in place to run an entertainment facility. Concessions have been a joke this year, I rarely buy anything now because they took away the debit card readers. Unfortunately, if I remember right, the contract with SMG was for five years which would have concluded last year I think, so the county must have extended their contract. Looks like we're looking at this crap for a few more years at least.

bp, you are probably right on in blaming SMG for last night's fiasco and I agree with everything you said. But here's the bottom line. I own a business. If my wholesaler screws up and doesn't deliver, it isn't the wholesaler that takes the hit from my customers. It's me. Same thing with the Spirit. League personnel aren't going to care that SMG screwed up. They want results, not excuses, and it's going to be the Spirit that get piloried around the league for what happened. There are a couple things I am curious about--- 1) if the ice was bad at the morning skate, and if it was worked on all day, then why did it take 5 Zamboni trips and 2+ hours to decide the ice was still bad? 2) If the ice was bad at the morning skate and it WASN'T worked on all day--why not?? I'm going under the assumption that the ice was bad in the morning also, obviously. Re: the above statement about a contract w/ SMG--seems to me that these would be circumstances that would legally allow a contract to be terminated. If there is anyone else to take over and if the Spirit wanted to, that is.

sf8 just curious. Where did you find the article with watson? I only saw one article and that was the front page article with Goslin and such. I'm interested to hear what watson has to say about it.

The main problem was that the Disney on Ice shows had the ice shaved down when they left on Wednesday night. Then, before the Dow people could repair it, the turf was laid down on Thursday for the football game. So, essentially there was no time to work on the ice until Saturday. When did they start working on it? No one really knows for sure.
My guess is that it was sometime on Saturday, but by then it was too late. I thought they may have rescheduled for Sunday, but evidently didn't think that the ice would be repaired in time. Before anyone says that they wouldn't play on Easter, there were 3 OHL playoff games yesterday, NCAA hoops, and a number of NHL games. I hope this does not have an affect on the outcome of the series but somehow I think it will.
GO SPIRIT!!!
