The Spirit return home after a three game road trip to face the Petes who have been in town all week after playing in Flint over the weekend. The Spirit took two out of three on the road trip. Lets hope that home ice will be good to the boys.

Thanks to the schedule makers for keeping the petes in town... Gotta love those hotel/tourism dollars!

Petes look big and fast, although neither team did much in the first period. Peterborough improved when they dumped Merkley (and it WAS a dump, considering what they got for him) DJ on D again—still waiting for comments/speculation on that.

At this point, the young D men haven't stepped up.
DJ is a superb skater, great going back as well. He has all the abilities of a Philip Hronek as far as skating skills are concerned. Lest we not forget, Hronek started out as a forward.
DJ handles the puck well, can spin the net and make that first pass well and looks very comfortable in the offensive zone. Do we loose his presence up front...sure, but this is where we are at.

Spirit lose 4-0, allowing 4 goals in the 3rd period.
Nine games in now and two trends have emerged with the Spirit:
1) Tristan Lennox is not ready to be the #1 goalie but Saginaw has nobody else to take that spot.
2) Saginaw's 3rd period defense is atrocious. One half (18) of the goals allowed by the Spirit all season have been in the 3rd period or overtime.
If these things don't get rectified, it's going to be a long season for a team that most expected to be one of the top teams in the league.

Last year when he played D, it was because of injuries. I wanted to know if one of the Dmen was injured. From your response, I’m guessing the answer is no. That said—did anyone REALLY think that starting the season with 3 rookie Dmen (counting Lemieux) was a plan for success? It’s a very rare 16 yr old who can contribute defensively right away, and we dont appear to have one of those. It hasnt helped that Millman has gotten off to a horrible start. Drinkill should be working thephones prettyhard at this point, before the season gets away from them. There’s a big difference between bringing it in the playoffs and bringing it on Wednesday night against an Eastern opponent with 1000 people in the house. I expect Lennox to figure it out, but let’s hope he does it soon.

fan8,
nowhere did I feel you were dogging dj. What I said is fact...he right now is a better Dman than some of our other dmen. Your 2nd paragraph says it all.

Oh, but based on a few great playoff games last season we had elevated him into our " can't miss" future goalie. To hell with Prosvetov! This team at present is a mess. So many areas not working, players lost, and "trends" not looking to well.

There were several times tonight where it appeared that a Spirit player would wait a fraction of a second too long to shoot or pass and by that time a Petes player was on the puck. They need to act quicker to get shots off or passes to open players.

What is all the concern about? Could it be that based on win percentage that they wouldn’t make the playoffs if the season ended today. Maybe it could be that they are 2nd to last in goals allowed. Or that Barrie is the only team with more penalty minutes and there isn’t a close team in 3rd. But hey all the expects picked them to win it all.
The one good thing I can see is if they don’t figure it out in the next few months they should get a boat load of picks with all this talent.
Also have they signed or even talked to Pass about playing in Saginaw. You would think that he would be here considering they used a 2nd round pick in the Import draft on him.

Is Dump a player to be named later? Well I don't know if they could go in and get Dump!

Dump was available but he would only come if Chase was coming along with him. DD thought that would screw up the chemistry of the team. So he went with Puck and Hog instead. They fit this team better.
