To protest the insanity that is the NHL Lockout I refuse to buy, display, or wear any NHL merchandise. I even took the Red Wings license plate holder off of my truck and threw it in the trash can. When you see fans at the home games wearing NHL garb, suggest that they no longer wear it and substitute OHL garb instead.

Can I root for players drafted by NHL teams?

Rooting for drafted players is OK by me. The OHL kids who are NHL draft picks have nothing to do with this. My beef is with the current owners and current members of the NHLPA. They are both equally to blame for this mess.

Hey, I will still wear my Legace jersey (and I will be proud to wear it) to the home games. That is one of my prized possessions and it's not about to get sidelined just because of the lockout. That's the only jersey I own and I can't spend the money to get a Spirit jersey. It's really not gonna make a difference anyway. They already made the money off of you. What you do with the product is up to you.

newfan77........as I stated in my original post "this is my way of protesting" and I only "suggested" others consider it. If you want to continue wearing you Legace jersey that is your choice. Personally, I like Manny and think he handled the whole Hasek/Cujo fiasco quite well. See you at the rink!!!

I was messing with you MSF. I too have given up on the spoiled millionaires club. I have personal disdain for the players who went to the ECHL and lesser leagues in Europe and took jobs away from players who needed their money.
If the lockoout continues, maybe the Spirit will be able to land a high profile coach and let Mancini continue his excellent GM duties.

jimdrw........I like your idea regarding a coach. That's kinda what happened for the SOO. I believe their new head coach was an NHL assistant previous to his accepting the Hounds position.
I also agree with your comments about players who are playing in the North American minor keagues or over in Europe.

MSF, no harm done. I understand what your saying.I had only gotten 2 hours of sleep last night and wasn't feeling real good when I read your post. I must have just jumped defensive automatically. As for my way to protest.... I just won't buy any tickets to NHL games this season. ;D ;D Not that I could afford to anyway. The whole thing bums me out though cause I was gonna go to the Wings training camp in Traverse City this year. I was visiting in that area of the state at that time and arranged my schedule around it and then, poof, my dreams disappear....

There were a number of bars and restaurants in T.C. that either went under or nearly went under due to the lack of funds. Those are the folks I feel bad for. The ticket people, or the ushers, or the folks who pay outrageous rents to have a tavern a few blocks from Joe Louis. They are on the verge of losing everything while the players pregnant dog about being millionaires instead of multi-millionaires.
Hartsburg did go to the Soo from Philly, but if the NHL started back up, he was going to go back to the Flyers.

This is 1 subject I think all real hockey fans agree on. I had kinda forgotten about all of the bars, restaurants, arena workers, etc are the real losers in this deal. It isn't fair. What places in TC shut down??

I don't know the area too well...I saw a report on the news a month ago and some bar owner said he my have to shut down, and another restaurant owner said she may have to close for the winter. Something like that. Then they talked about the area around the Joe and how they are hurting.

You want to exile hockey to Canada? There are more pro hockey teams in Texas than Canada right now, did you know that? That means money and jobs, etc...If the NHL dries up, and a new league is formed...there will be sweeping reform all throughout hockey and the OHL will be affected too.

no, all i was saying is that if they dot want to play , then they dont have to but im not running out to get a ticket when the strike ends, 1) i probably wont be able to afford it if ticket prices raise and 2)they should see what it looks like if we strike, how would they like it? the usa part was basically if they never play another game period, wasnt trying to banish hockey from usa , i love it too much...

If and when they come back, ticket prices will be slashed a bit I think to try to woo some of the fans back. If I am going to drive down there for a game, it will be to see fromer Spirit players in the NHL or Windsor vs. Saginaw. I have been done with casual Red Wing games for a number of years. I went to the Finals in 97 in Detroit and 98 in D.C. The last Red Wing game I went to was 2000 or 2001, when they lost to L.A. in the playoffs.
