Tonight's game is a big one for the Spirit. Windsor is at the top of the standings so the Spirit really need a win to close the gap. They're going to be shorthanded again with Cardwell serving the second game of his suspension, Jenkins out with a knee injury and Solovyov off to the junior tournament. In order for Saginaw to gain on the division leaders they're going to need to get better goaltending. It's been inconsistent at best so far this season.
Speaking of Jenkins injury, someone posted on Facebook, that he doesn't have a torn ACL, but has a Grade 3 MCL tear and is out until the first of the year.

According to Google, a Grade 3 MCL tear comes with a recovery time of 4-8 weeks. Certainly could be a lot worse...

Turns out Windsor is a point behind Saginaw but they’ve played four fewer games.

Score 11 goals last night, get shutout tonight. Feels like a microcosm as to how the season has gone.

Jeez, I hate to see big goalies always on their knees giving up top corner goals!

Jeez, I hate to see big goalies always on their knees giving up top corner goals! Only have to look at the SOG to know why we lost this one, and it wasn't because of goaltending. Can't score when you can't get a shot on net, and it took us almost until the end of the game to break 20 shots thanks to pulling the goalie and some powerplay time. Speaking of our power play, it needs some real help. I think we're better shorthanded right now than up a guy. Windsor did a good job of getting sticks and bodies in the lanes and deflecting shots/passes, and their goalie was able to stop what did get through. We didn't play a physical enough game and that cost us too. Nice to see the guys defending Perfetti whenever he gets hit, but would like to see them step up for other players like that too. But nice job protecting Cole. Good news is Thursday we head to Windsor to play the Spitfires again — feels like the only team we've been playing lately, so we're bound to win against them eventually, right? Also hearing some rumblings, so who knows what might happen coming up.

Also hearing some rumblings, so who knows what might happen coming up. I wasn't at this game but at the previous Windsor game in Saginaw I thought they had a really good penalty kill. Douglass especially stood out to me and I thought they were really aggressive in our defensive zone when we were on the power play which you don't see very often. Usually it's just dump to kill time and let the other team bring it up but they were aggressive on the forecheck.

No, this wasn't a slap at our goal tending, but an across the board question mark about the amount of times I see goals scored on large / tall tenders who go down way to early and leave the top corners wide open. Go look at the goals scored the other night.
