For all of you who were Gears fans, John Gibson passed away. I met John when I lived in Houston in the early 80’s. A lot of former Gears players were on the Houston Apollos since they were the next step up for the LA Kings and it's where many of the Gears players went as they advanced up the ladder since the Gears were also a Kings farm team. I went to one of their practices during training camp wearing a Gears t-shirt and he was one of the guys I was able to talk to after practice. The guy was huge and seemed like a really nice guy. Funny thing is that team folded in the middle of the season and the Kings sent most the guys back to Saginaw who then went on to win the Turner Cup. Opposing teams weren't happy with those circumstances since the Gears had a lot of players who should have been playing in a higher league, but instead they were in the IHL. Basically the Gears had a AAA team in a AA league. www.stcatharinesstandard.ca/sports-story/9818779-john-gibby-gibson-s-dream-came-true-when-he-played-for-maple-leafs/?fbclid=iwar03wysxfin1ng3jmimkerzakoy1edxofhbqggbro-rejkybck40vb7uyc0
