No one is talking about it on here, but the Dow Event Center millage passed last night, narrowly. So that means we should get another 10 years of Saginaw Spirit hockey, maybe working elevators in the parking garage again, better ice in the arena, and new boards, among other things. Good to see. It looked sketchy earlier in the evening.

Anyone hear anything about any improvements being done in the arena prior to the start of the season? I'm mostly interested in the boards, since I have to shoot through the glass and if they're upgrading, hopefully they're adding photo holes because the new glass is TERRIBLE for photographers. lol

I know they're replacing the ice plant right now.

I don't think they're making a lot of cosmetic changes...I think it's a lot of infrastructure like roofs and the ice plant that was mentioned. I think they are doing some renovations to the bathrooms but it may just be cosmetic.
The parking ramp is also getting renovated...I've heard they're finally going to get the elevator working in there.

There were a lot of dark areas in there.

There were a lot of dark areas in there. I solve that problem by not parking in the ramp. I support the local business man across the street by parking there and giving him my money instead of the county government.

The lights in the parking ramp need to be fixed too. There were a lot of dark areas in there. Word is lights are being fixed as well as both elevators in the parking garage, so it should be almost literally night and day difference.

The old boards are for sale on eBay if anyone here is rich enough to be totally foolish with money and looking to build their own backyard rink. Just kidding, rich people aren't foolish with money. Otherwise they wouldn't be rich. Unless you are Mike Bloomberg running for president. Then in that case you have so much money that you can't possibly spend it all in a month. www.ebay.com/itm/274876557205Just remember these are for an ice surface that is 192x85

Thanks for posting... Not that I'm going to buy them but I know a group that's looking to maybe do a hockey rink so they might be interested.

Been a lot of talk about 8 feet being added to the ice surface, but from my understanding it's not 8 feet and it won’t be that noticeable. Only change the fans will see is the removal of a row of seats on the east end. Second hand report but doesn’t seem as if the change is going to be as dramatic as some seem to be making it out to be. We shall see.
