At 4 that's the highest I've seen. I've seen him as low as 8. It's going to be a pretty good draft talent wise especially in the first round. It just boils down to each teams needs and who is the top guy on their list that is still available. It's not just a matter of "best available" player as much as it is what each team needs. The Spirit have only had one player taken in the first round. In the 2006 Draft New Jersey took Matt Corrente 30th overall.
Ryan O'Marra, who did play for the Spirit was also a 1st round pick, but he played for Erie at the time. He was the 15th overall pick in 2005.

Didn’t we trade for 10th overall NHL draft pick last year?

Let’s not forget about Owen Tippett..
Can we count Phil Kessel?

Let’s not forget about Owen Tippett.. Can we count Phil Kessel? Kessel at 5 and Scheifele at 7 I believe are the 2 highest drafted Spirit draft pick. Jamie Oleksiak went 14th overall and played here and was drafted by Saginaw as well. Kyle Connor I believe went 17th OA. Perfetti can challenge those top 2 as well and Fantilli is a top 5 pick in 2023 as it stands as well.

We should get credit for Turcotte also.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that on character alone, Cole Perfetti has a FAR better chance of making it than Matt Corrente did. Add in Perfetti’s boatload of talent, and it’s a lock.

Call it what it is… Perfetti is the top Spirit player to date. Big win for franchise.

I saw this one too. I commented on that post by simply saying that any list that has Perfetti going 17th is not a good lists. I stand by that statement.

Once again I must clarify my position. The Saginaw Spirit have only had one Saginaw Spirit player drafted in the first round while they were still a Saginaw Spirit Player. To qualify for the list of Saginaw Spirit Players who were drafted in the First Round of an NHL draft You must have been a Saginaw Spirit Player at the time of the NHL draft. Players who were drafted by another OHL team who got drafted into the NHL before they became a Spirit player don't count. Players who were drafted by the Spirit, but never played for the Spirit who get drafted into the NHL also don't count. Hence, to date the only Spirit player to make this list is Matt Corrente.
You guys can go ahead add all sorts of names, but at the end of they day the Spirit have only had one player who was drafted in the First Round of any NHL draft when they were a Saginaw Spirit "Player". That statement remains 100 percent true no matter how much you all don't want it to be.

BP I must be missing something. Your last paragraph says only one person has been drafted by the NHL while on the team. That’s 1000 percent wrong they have had lots of players drafted into the NHL. Maybe you were just talking about 1st rounders and messed up, or maybe the Coronavirus has gotten into you keyboard and it isn’t responding well.
