I know this was already announced in another thread, but thought it deserved its own. Today the Spirit announced they are picking Michael Misa as the #1 draft pick in the OHL draft. Misa was granted exceptional status, only the sixth player to ever have that distinction. As Craig Goslin mentioned this morning during the press conference, four of the other five who have been granted exceptional status have wound up being #1 draft picks in the NHL, and the fifth is expected to be #1 this year. So Misa has a lot to live up to. Great crowd at the Dow this morning for the announcement, and we'll be getting national attention for this probably for quite some time. This is the Spirit's second #1 draft pick in history, the first being Patrick McNeil in 2003. I was there this morning for the announcement. It was a great event this morning and such an exciting time for the franchise... As I mentioned in the other thread the Spirit are great at marketing and they are going to say the word "exceptional" a billion times over the next six months. They'll definitely entice some casual observers to come check him out and if the last month of the season is any indication, they'll see a hardworking team while they're there.
Now they just need to find some muscle to have out on the ice to protect all these young guys and let them skate.

With the Spirit acquiring some late picks in this years draft, maybe they can use that to (maybe) convince one long shot that otherwise my not report, to report. The great thing about someone like Michael is that he is going to make those around him better. It might take a year or two, but for anyone who is able to play with him - I'm sure there is some incentive, right?
Anyways it is a super exciting time. It definitely takes away the sting of the last two years being wiped out.

In addition to Michael Misa, the Spirit made 2 more picks on night 1 of the OHL Priority Selection.
At #19, the Spirit selected D Zayne Parekh from the Markham Majors. He has the honor of being picked twice in the OHL Draft, as Owen Soumd tried to draft him last year when he wasn't eligible.
At #24, the Spirit returned to the Mississauga Senators a d drafted C Bode Stewart. He was projected top-10 coming into the draft.

They also selected 54th overall and took left handed defensemen Josh Glavin from the Lambton Jr Sting. Funny enough his dad works in hockey ops for the Sarnia Sting.

In fact, Day was put on unconditional waivers by the Rangers, and currently plays for the AHL Syracuse Crunch. A cautionary tale.

😂😂😂😂That will get you into trouble every time!!!😂😂😂😂 I knew it when I wrote it. lol. I was honestly surprised it took as long as it did for an error to be found in that statement. HAHA. A good salesman doesn't let the truth get in the way of selling something, right?
