OK everyone, opening night is finally here. Hopefully we'll see more discussion here this season than last season.
Everyone seems to be excited by the young players coming to the Spirit, led by Michael Misa, who should be fun to watch and grow as a player. I hope the defensive corps is improved this season. The Spirit goalies were left on an island way too many times last season. I don't think scoring goals will be an issue this season.
Guelph lost last night and are considered one of the favorites to win the Western Conference. They might come into tonight's game a little angry.

That was fun! Awesome to see Misa on the scoreboard in game 1. Too bad it was chippy at the end, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t out there for the last 10-15 minutes, which I don’t blame the coaching staff for one bit (unless he was out and I missed it).
I’m not normally one to say much about the refs but there were a couple questionable calls for both teams, but the Bloom unsportsmanlike was pretty weak.
Good all around effort, Mintyukov looks like he has developed a ton over the off season.

After the first 6 or 7 minutes of the game I thought Saginaw was in for a long night. Can't believe they ended up scoring 10 goals. I thought the same thing about Misa in the 3rd period. After his second goal I think he might have had 2 or 3 shifts at most. Lennox was fine, some goals weren't his fault. Just that kind of game on both sides.
Niagara in town today, who many predicted to be very bad, but opened their season with a win on the road against a very hyped-up Flint team. Should be interesting. Does Oke start today?
Side note/personal nitpick: that had to have been the most boring/low-key player intros on an Opening Night I've ever seen. Turn the lights down and pump the music up a little bit. Get the boys fired up.
