Thought I'd start a new thread...the only trade we've had until now is Hill which I think was a good trade for us.
Now the big one...
Saginaw moves: Josh Bloom Brayden Hislop 6th round pick
Saginaw gets: Nic Sima - Forward (2005 - 2nd Round OHL Draft Pick) Cam Gauvreau - Defense (2003 - Looks like he's a tough guy...https://ontariohockeyleague.com/players/8601) (2) 2nd round picks (3) 3rd round picks
Let me first say that I've always really liked Bloom and Hislop has made great strides since joining the team last year and I've heard he's a good team guy.
That said, I LOVE this trade...neither guy is going to be back next year (OA's will be Loukas, Tbone and Mancini) and we got a crap-ton of draft picks to get players in future years.
I don't know much about Nic Sima but he was a 2nd round OHL pick so he should be pretty good and Cam Gauvreau sure seems to have all the makings of a goon (or tough guy) which will really help our younger players create some space on the ice.
People are going to be sad about losing Bloom (and rightfully so) but I honestly thought he should have been traded last year (like Lennox) and he was the most likely player to get traded this year. This is so much different than the old days because in the old days we would have only received picks back and now we get picks AND two everyday players so I really like this.

Losing players like Bloom is an unfortunate part of junior hockey where one team going for it all acquires players from teams that aren't. Saginaw did the same thing a few years ago, but unfortunately it didn't work out for the Spirit due to Covid.
The new players will get to know their new teammates very well since they'll be on the road for three games this weekend.
It appears the Spirit will be loaded with draft picks to get players to surround Misa. I would think that this trade might set the tone for the Spirit making other trades before the deadline. I just hope they don't gut the roster.

First, very sad to see Bloom go, but also not surprised at all. I also assume he had the right to veto this trade, so my guess is he's happy where he's going.
I'll stand by that I don't think we're a "gut the team" kind of team. That being said, when you have someone like Misa, you build around him, and I agree, that looks like what we're doing. Plus, maybe we can have some fun along the way.

I imagine this was a difficult trade to make. When you look at the standings and see we're tied for first in the division and have won 7 of the past 8, it might be a big tough to swallow. But I do think it was the right move and Saginaw got a great return. We more or less recoup what we gave up in the Ryan Suzuki trade, which sadly we never got to see the final result of. I liked Josh as a captain, and I hope this trade doesn't "break" the team like Baber deal kind of did last year. The North Bay folks seem to like Sima, but he may have gotten lost in the shuffle behind the veteran players they have this season. He should get a better chance to develop here. Saginaw is obviously building around Misa and they can still make moves towards that.
