The World Juniors are coming up and Andrew Oke was selected for the Team USA evaluation camp...there are 4 goalies for 3 spots I'm guessing since they took 3 for the summer. The way he's been playing for us I'm sure he'll be at least one of the 3 and honestly, I think he should be considered for action in games. The bad news for us is that camp starts Sunday so he'll be gone for North Bay, Flint and Erie for sure before Christmas and if he makes it he'll miss 4 or 5 games after Christmas as well.
I don't know if the Czech team has been announced yet but I'm sure that Sapovaliv will be on that team and he'll miss the games after Christmas. If Russia had a team we'd be down Mintukov as well.
The big surprise (not to those who have watched the OHL for a long time) is that Sasha Pastujov (who played on the team this summer) and Ty Voit (the leading scorer in the OHL) weren't even invited to the camp. Oke and I think one other are the only CHL players at the USA Camp.
Good luck to our guys at the camps and tournament!

Oke must have left for USA world junior camp. Fullerton was called up and backed up Lennox tonight in Sudbury.

Day 1 of the WJC saw two upsets:
Switzerland over Finland, 3-2 in OT Czechia over Canada, 5-2
Sapovaliv did not register a point in the Czechia win. He logged almost 22 minutes of ice time, the most of any Czech forward.
Also of note, prior to the Czechia-Canada game, Sapovaliv signed his 3-year, entery-level contract with Vegas.
Sweden and the US both won their opening games. Oke DNP for Team USA.
Day 2 sees 4 games on the schedule:
Finland v. Slovakia Germany v. Sweden Switzerland v. Latvia Austria v. Czechia

I wish that Oke would see some action like he did in the Summer tournament but it sure seems like he's stuck in that #3 spot. Crazy to think that Gaudreau is the starter for Canada and Oke completely outplayed him head to head the last game at Sarnia. Probably a lot of politics involved...Augustine is in the US Developmental team so they're probably trying to groom him for the future even though Oke came in this summer and blew guys like Musezlik and Silverstein out of the water from all accounts.

You're suggesting there's politics in hockey? Come on man, you know better! lol.

Be grateful they even took OKe. We all know what the chances are unless you’re on the USMDT.

I saw the highlights of Sapovaliv that the Spirit posted on Twitter...he looked strong...can't wait to see him back with the Red White and Blue.
It's also sad that Mintuykov doesn't get to show off his skills to the world...not trying to be political at all, just feel bad for a good kid like Pavel who has zero to do with the conflict and is stuck on the sidelines. Glad he'll be around for the games this week but I take pride in our Saginaw boys on the world stage.

Exactly right MSF...since he's not at the World Jrs he's eligible to be traded now. I'm so torn...I don't want to lose him but if it's the right deal, I can certainly live with it looking at the bigger picture.
