Spirit make a move and get Ethan Hay from Flint...essentially they gave up (2) 2nds, (2) 3rds and (1) 5th to get him. chl.ca/ohl-spirit/article/spirit-add-two-way-center-hay-in-deal-with-firebirds/He was very good in the playoffs against us and I trust Drinkell in all of these moves but to me, this seems like a pretty high price for a guy who hasn't put up a lot of points in an offensive league. The good thing is that he's an 05 so this isn't a rental player which is probably why the price was higher and if he produces, we could certainly move him again in the future. He'll certainly be a nice piece to have but for a guy who wanted out of Flint (confirmed by Flint quotes) it seems like a high price to pay. Regardless, he'll log minutes with this group and hopefully he'll produce some good offense and jumpstart the team.

Hay is a good faceoff guy and is more of a two-way player, which I do think is something we need. But yeah....that's a pretty steep price IMO. Even if he's an '05.

I'm personally excited with this move. I think he's a skilled player who hasn't had a chance to really shine in Flint. I had heard rumors of this a while back, but didn't think we'd actually trade with Flint. Nice pickup.

This trade makes us very strong down the middle. Hay is outstanding in the faceoff circle (which we need) and isnt afraid to mix it up in the dirty areas. He brings a LOT to the table that you need on a winning team. Time will tell if he is worth the haul, but I trust Drinkill, and until proven othereise, I like this deal.

There's talk on the hfboard that this move of getting Hay is the signal that we're ready to move McNamara. McNamara has been very solid on faceoffs this year but the rest of his game is exactly the same as the past two years. I've predicted for a long time now that he's going to be moved and maybe getting Hay is that trigger point to upgrade. Nothing against McNamara but he needs a change of scenery and a new system and hopefully he can thrive there.

Just thinking ahead to any potential future trades that bring in more players. By my count, including Ethan Hay, Saginaw has now used 24 player cards this season. I don’t believe Papineau or Fullerton count. That leaves 6 player cards remaining. forums.hfboards.com/threads/playing-cards-and-types.2672135/
